You wouldnt happen to have a picture of the first ever spyderco knife would you? it would be interesting to see. And I dont mean production knife, I mean like working concept or even original sketch. Im on a whole spyderco history kick today after seeing some of your stories and watching some videos

That is a picture of the first sample that I made in my shop late one evening. I was able to open my folders with one hand and I was working on a way to make it possible for anyone to be able to do it. I tried adding things to the blade; studs, discs, etc. but they interfered with the sharpening. Then I started removing from the blade; texture etc. When I came up with the hole, I wanted to make something to prove out the concept so I welded a piece of drill rod onto the spine of a production lock-back and ground it down, Then I drilled it with a handle drill., just to prove out the concept.

The folder was a Basic Tools made in Japan...440C blade.

I had just two like this one, one mint, and the other looked it had survived a war or two, but both were stolen in transit to NZ.

The company closed down after a few years, but in South Africa assorted model turn up in stores in the middle of nowhere.

I have other mint models from this company.
I will dig my two of the Cave, and show pics, and you might see the resemblance.
