I've been out of the knife-buying loop for a long time. So is the MSRP for a standard Native Chief LWT now in the $200 range? As good a knife as the Native Chief is, I don't think I could ever bring myself to spend $200 for a knife in FRN.

that's msrp not street price. the bd1n pe satin frn chief is currently on sale for $102 or so, good time to buy if you don't care about dlc or salt levels of corrowion resistance.

regular price will be in the $150 ballpark.

Yeah $102 is a fantastic price, and so tempting.

If we could get it for that money in Europe (and in SE) I would not think twice - despite I think for me a Pac Salt will always "beat" a Chief LW (also the Chief Salt): Lighter, a bit stronger tip, for me better (more stable in hand)ergos, ricasso instead of choil.

What I'd probably slightly prefer in the Chief LW: Even better backlock, no hump,a tad more cutting edge.

I'll still have to try a Chief LW, it must be a great folder. But in the end I guess I'll always be just an Endura (platform) guy...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

By the way, Gernot, I would buy one and ship it to you. I have no idea what the shipping cost would be though.

If you figure out knife shipping from US to Europe (particularly France), I want to know how you do/did it. I tried to ship some months ago to a friend and ran into formidable warnings while putting together the online paperwork that implied risk of confiscation. We decided it wasn't worth the risk.

I was able to successfully pre-order at that price yesterday. No idea when fulfillment might happen though.

Thanks. If I ever do buy another knife, it's going to be sometime off in the future. But I'm glad that the LWT Chief is on sale right now at a good price for those who want them.

That´s a really kind offer of you, my friend!! :smlling-eyes

... But like you, I want SE (which is not available in that great deal)
And though also the SE version for its regular price will certainly be a lot cheaper in the US than in Europe (as usual), when adding shipping and tariffs/ taxes, I can order myself in Europe anyway and end up with paying the same same or even less money.

/ No idea either what shipping fare from the US to Europe would be.
If I send a small parcel from Austria to the US, it is like 20 Euros (around 22 USD).
Shops like BHQ charge like 40 USD for shipping from the US to Europe.

Perhaps this was cause France has stricter knife laws?

I actually had knives sent to me from the US, it went without a problem as far as I am aware of.
BUT: Austria, where I live has (unlike France) pretty much no restricting knife laws at all. So you can carry whatever you want here, and thus probably get shipped to you whatever knife you want too...

Concerning the weight once more:

The Chief LW really is very light for what size of blade, edge and handle it offers.

But still: For those who are looking for the lightest weight possible this makes the similarly sized Pac Salt ffg even more amazing:

The Chief LW (3.1 oz / 88g) is still closer to the linered Endura (3.3 oz / 94g) than to the "unlinered Endura" Pac Salt ffg (2.6 oz / 72 g)
