Have you ever used the Flatiron Pepper Grinder? It slices the flakes instead of grinding them. I really prefer it to sprinkling crushed red pepper flakes onto food. We’re going to try growing scotch bonnets next year.
Usually I grind to flakes and powder in advance, using a mortar and pestle, then bottle it and no need for further grinding. I end up with various pepper combinations, some powder and some flake, and some smoked and some not smoked. So plenty of small (this year) bottles of various peppers.

But I will definitely try this - looks like you just break them up good, then put them in the grinder?
Yes, so instead of putting your pepper flakes in a shaker you would put them in the grinder instead and grind over your food. It’s so good on pizza. Just adds a different flavor, brighter.

These Scotch Bonnet pods will get dehydrated, smoked, ground, then mixed with the various Paprika peppers that I grew this year. They will add fire and sweetness to my flakes and powder. I got two Scotch Bonnet pods total - both Chocolate - so I had to purchase the ones below.

I’m getting loose to harvesting my Tabasco to dehydrate and powder . This should be my largest crop ever very excited . I gift some of it as a tradition to Hispanic friends where I worked and buddies around town .

Test smoking run on dehydrated peppers. The smoke flavor wasn't all that great and the sweetness of the peppers disappeared. I'll probably just crush and jar without smoking the rest.

Nevertheless that a killer photo and what a slab of meat…there’s so much smoke I didn’t see it at first glance…I gave some hot banana peppers to a friend and he said he smoked them the same day with good results…I’m no expert at smoking but he said it was easy.

Thanks. Safeway had a huge sale on flatiron steaks, my favorite to grill after the tri-tip.

Image Glad the Pumpkin project is progressing ! I have to go out and stake one side of Tabasco plants after 2.5 inches of rain in two days . May have close to two weeks before pulling to dehydrate.and blend . Dan
