This is the guy known for dual grit sharpening. Sal reached out to him and sent him "a box of knives" to test.

Cool video. I hope he has some PE H2 and tests his dual grit edge on it.

Awesome ! I can confirm, from my experience, that you don’t need to remove material in order to bring back H1(dunno about H2 but it must be the same) serrations back to at least the initial sharpness. It’s a very plastic alloy with a very high toughness; perfect for the spyderedge pattern. I also use the same sharpening protocol for my PE Salts in H1, I almost never sharpen them using a motion against the edge, I just use the UF benchstone and try to bring back( align) the edge using the flat portion with a motion down and along the edge( if that makes sense).

Nice

Thanks to both Gabe, and Sal/Spyderco Team!

I picked up an PE H2 DF2 (Plain Edge - H2 Steel - Dragonfly 2 knife, haha) when I ordered my Rex T 15 Mule Team. I have zero complaints with H2 based on my experiences with that little knife so far.

It’s interesting to see the results and what a little stropping can do.

I’d like to see the same test with serrated K390.

this is the kind of testing i've been hoping to see on h2. i know i'd end up with some regardless someday, but now i want it more. i just wish more salt models came in all black with hollow grinds. there's a se h2 pac salt in my future though.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Just a little more anecdotal H2 experience to add here. I've had my Tasman Salt Yellow SE in H2 for a couple of weeks now. It's been chewing successfully on heavy cardboard, poly rope and small green limbs so far and I can't really tell any difference between it and H1. Like Gregg Allman said, "Don't mess up a good thing". Spyderco was listening...

Thanx much for the test.

Guess we'll have to send you a sharpener for serrations. Actually teeth cut better after being sharpened on a Sharpmaker and will also cut paper.

For me at least, this is true. I can get my blades back to the point that they will slice paper like when they were factory fresh.

It will be interesting if Gabe gets to test SE knives make of harder alloys (VG 10, LC200N, Magna-Cut, K390). I now seriously wonder if edge holding properties for a SE blade are significantly different than those for a PE blade. The lack of sharpness loss on that knife was insane, as well as how easily it was brought back.
