Bring back the Kiwi

#1

Post by Bristlecone pine »

I somehow missed out on the Kiwi. I saw Michael reference them in a discussion about the new MicroJimbo. Is there a chance these may come back into production down the line? Looked to be an excellent slimline edc with a lot of wharncliffe cutting ability.

Does anyone have any experience with the kiwi? It seemed to be a well regarded knife.

There’s another classic Sal design that would be awesome to bring back. I bought my father the jigged bone bolstered version a couple years ago so I’ve gotten quite a bit of time to play around with it, its my favorite spyderco wharnie. The fact you can very comfortably get 4 fingers on the knife for how small it is closed is one of the most beautiful things about the knife too. I prefer the original to the 3 and 4

i'd really like a kiwi 4, but my delica wharncliffe has kind of quenched that thirst for now.

I would love to have a shot at a Kiwi since I missed that era as well. Looks like a perfect carry when in a more formal setting and needing something smaller and discrete.

As far as smaller Spyderco classics I kind of liked the KIWI models. Not nearly as much as my pal "The Deacon" did but I've owned a hand full of them. However another small classic Spyder I even liked somewhat better was the "KOPA" model. The KOPA and KIWI models were in the main line up about the same time and both had a strong cult following in this community.

Another small Spyderco model I would love to see return would be the Burgundy, ZDP-189 Jess Horn model. The Kopa and Kiwi models are probably way overdue for a Sprint Run.

Kiwi is absolutely beautiful design, especially the original ones with different inlays. I would not be mad if new kiwi came out :purple-devil

I'd love to have a 🥝! Was it The Deacon who had that incredible picture of his collection of Kiwis?

Yep! Incredible collection he has. A newly released Kiwi would certainly get me to bite, and I'm not even in the game for new knives anymore. Such a cool knife though.

I would love to see a new Kiwi that is the exact same size and blade shape as the Kiwi 3 (which is slightly larger than the original Kiwi), but with a backlock, pocket clip, and higher quality blade and scale material. The Kiwi 3 has almost perfect ergonomics and I love the more pointy tip and warncliff blade.

There’s a Kiwi 3 on eBay for $100.

Prices have gone a bit wonky for Kiwis but if you can find one for $100 that’s less than what a new one is likely to cost.
