This is a Reconnaissance Mission

This is a Reconnaissance Mission.
Doing a search for the Autonomy and its variants was interesting to me.
I found one that I like and more than likely it will be the next in line to purchase.
I do like the idea of a safety if I choose to use it tromping though rough terrain or working on my house where bumping into something would possibly cause the blade to deploy in my pocket.
If you have purchased an Autonomy, would you do it again given the chance to rewind the clock?
Thanks

I have an Autonomy 1 and would buy one again in a heartbeat. It's built like a tank, cuts like a laser, and that safety works very well. It's my duty knife for my job as a state trooper, and has been a good companion.

I purchased a second from ACK and it is great. Fires with authority, comfortable handle that should fit most hands well, and beefy without entering the absurd level some knives have. My only concern is trying purchase backup replacement springs. The website has not updated in months.

I have 3 of them, it's probably my overall favorite knife Spyderco makes. I think I favor the 1 over the 2, and my dream knife would be a 1 with just little bit of belly to the blade.

I also have taken the safeties off of mine. I look at it the same way as I look at gun safeties, the only safety is trigger discipline. I guess that doesn't really relate to a knife as well, but on several occasions I pulled my Autonomy 1 and the safety had set itself in my pocket and I would go to fire it open and it was locked and I hated that feeling.

I guess since I have 3 it's safe to say I'd do it again. I'm casually looking for one of the Coast Guard models that doesn't have a safety. I have both the black and orange versions of the 1 and a DLC/SE 2.

I don't think I'd need even that much belly, just about as much as a Manix 2 or Pacific would be perfect.

A manix 2 blade in an Autonomy style knife would be awesome but I think the one I ordered will be pretty good, especially since I got it at $190 shipped.

Yeah my wish is just for a slightly modified Autonomy 1 blade shape, but it's really just a nitpicking detail. In use I get similar function from the Autonomy 2 blade, more or less.

So, how much pressure do you think it it takes to launch the blade?

I've never tried to measure, not sure how I even could but it certainly isn't a "hair trigger" and more than just force it has a good amount of travel before it fires. I have had it open one time in my pocket but it was because I also had a beard comb in the same pocket and the hardness of the comb allowed enough force to push into the button to fire it. With the button just pressing against my leg I've never had an issue, but safety or no safety is definitely up to you and whatever you feel safe with.

Well, it is nice to know it is there if I need to use it in a full pocket. Thanks for the info.

This dude needs to slow down and learn to enjoy all these knives he's already acquired the past couple months. No way are you learning anything at this rate. Of course every knife you get is amazing right now when you get a new one every week. Spend some time with what you've got. Not saying that to be a jerk, but seriously. You'll find the hobby much more enjoyable if you slow it down a bit.
