Manix XL with a Bowie blade

I was just sat in my office cooling off from some landscaping work, enjoying a frosty Coke Zero and idly cleaning my Cruwear Manix 2 XL when it occurred to me that the handle and CBBL locking mechanism would really lend themselves to a big Bowie blade (*the knife design, not the 70’s through 2000’s legendary pop star).

Have there ever been any variations on the original blade design of the Manix/Manix XL series of knives, because I would be all kinds of excited to acquire some! St Nick’s Knives, if you are listening a Manix XL with a massive hollow ground Bowie blade would be wonderful 🙏🏻

Give us a sketch or a mockup of what you're thinking...

That sounds like a great idea.

I'd love a 3V DLC blade with a Knifeworks green handle.

I would be on board with that.
I also heard that a Bowie blade was being put in a PM2 but I haven't see any more about it since.

😂 give me five minutes to finish eating this crayon and I’ll get started.

That fits exactly within the profile of the current blade. And I know it’s hard to believe but I am not in fact a classically trained artist.

Wouldn’t it be much nicer if they would just bring back this blade? :squinting-tongue

Just delete the signature of keating. (that man has forgotten how to make knives as this anyway…)
And just tweak the blade a little to fit the manix XL handle…

It’s a handsome blade design for sure!

Well if this can happen...

It could be possible if you hold your breath long enough.

Seen it in person. Looks way better in hand then on that picture. Must say do not really like the dent in the middle personally.

Yeah I would absolutely accept whatever small amount of weight that fuller takes away. The full size fuller worked ok on the Tuff but this one looks so out of place and unnecessary. It'll already be a great looking blade without it. I guess it's a nostalgia thing.

Totally agree on that the weight loss is almost zero and in the tuff the entire groove had also another purpose besides weight this one has no use to speak off. ( on the tuff hey could make the grind a bit thinner without changing the bladestock on top thx to that groove)

That PM2 was the first thing I thought of. I think it would look a lot bettter on the Manix XL.

After staring at Apollo's Chinook, I think it may be the significant hump on the PM2 that makes it a little much to wrap your head around with this blade design. The lesser hump on the XL I think would be more fitting.

ImageI would like to see them in a closed position Manix XL with Bowie blade reminds me more of the Chinook 2 with a different lock . The fullers on the PM2 I have to agree seems to be an after thought. I think the blade would be cleaner in appearance without them on the blade . Interesting idea though . MG2

I wouldn’t be surprised if the fullers were to improve the balance of the knife - they look pretty deep and wide.

On the PM2 bowie, I'd rather see them lay the top swedge down at a lower angle and extend it further back and then they can remove the goofy fuller.

Bowie blades, trailing points and clip points are my favorites, so YES! to a Manix XL with such a blade.

Only if the hole is within the normal outline of the blade, though, like the Schempp Bowie.

You shouldn't eat crayons raw. They're best melted into water (the brown ones at least) and then you have a nice cuppa coffee. Melt a white one in, if you like cream and sugar.

I like the bowie-blade-on-manix idea (and sketch!). More than one blade shape on one of Spyderco's most popular models makes sense to me. And the Bowie blade is a perpetual crowd pleaser.*

(*Even though what is known as the Bowie blade, is unlikely what Jim Bowie's famous Sandbar knife actually looked like.)

Yeah, but just think of the odd places basing a knife on this might go:
