Yojimbo 2 blade pivot area grind marks

#1

Post by AH80s »

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had seen this sort of thing before, or had any ideas as to why this area has the coarser finish. It’s not like it on the other side Just curious as it looks intentional, and I’ve never come across it before.
Thanks.

I've never seen coarser, but I've seen a finer finish there on quite a few compression lock models.

I assume the finer finish is to make it smoother for the detent ball to glide over. No idea why it would be coarser.

Ok thanks. I said coarser because of the more visible grind lines, though in reality I couldn't really distinguish much of a difference in feel. I've put it back together now so can't recheck. Maybe you are right and it's finer and just looks coarser.

Here's my Yojumbo, for comparison:

It's definitely normal to have a different finish there, in my experience.

Probably some post finishing done to clean up an edge or something. You can always polish this area yourself and make the pivot smoother, just don't get too aggressive with sanding or you'll create blade play. I've polished a bunch of tangs and detent paths.

Cheers, Thank you. Action is pretty smooth so will leave it as it is.
