K390 in the Spyderco Byte; a compliment and two requests

#1

Post by ZrowsN1s »

What Spyderco has done with K390 availability is amazing and commendable. Such a huge benefit to all of us steel junkies to have such an amazing steel so affordable and easily available. It remains a favorite of mine. I have 2 Police 4's (g10 pe and frn se), a Wharncliffe Delica, Wharncliffe Dragonfly, 2 ladybugs, and a manbug in K390. And I'm planning on adding the Wharncliffe Endura next. I suspect there will be others. Much like H1, it's not a steel where I've ever said, well I've already got 3 knives in that steel, I'll wait for something new. It's an 'I would like more of that' steel.

So two requests....

First that picture is awesome and can you make a poster of it and sell it on Spyderco.com?

Second... looking at that picture only one thing nags at me... can we get a Hawkbill in K390? Any Hawkbill? If you're looking for a suggestion I would immediately say Hawkbill Dragonfly. But I would buy literally any K390 Hawkbill.

After reading the latest newsletter, I’m wanting to try some K390. I don’t actually need the steel, but I’m becoming more curious.

I definitely plan on acquiring some K390 Spydercos. The ones I’m most interested in tend to be a bit pricier (LT3LW, Enuff 2), and are pretty new additions so I haven’t gone for any yet.
I think the Stretch and probably another longer option in SpyderEdge are some I’ll end up getting. For the Stretch might want to try swapping a pair of Ivory FRN scales from the Straight Spine Sprint, if I can find some.

I hope the LeafJumper and/or RockJumper join this list, though.

I think a Hawkbill is a good idea too and maybe a Lil’ Matriarch as well.

I’m super interested in SpyderHawk, Lil’ Matriach, and RockJumper/LeafJumper Salts, as Salts are just better for me, but K390 versions would be excellent as well.

Spydeco is doing a wonderful job with the k390 in my personal experience. I and I love the fact that they introduced it in ever growing family of knives, plus they went with a FRN lightweight handle that is not only very purposeful, but also helps to keep the cost down. I have so far only the PM2 and Urban, but I am very tempted by the Lil' Temperance for a heavy duty knife. The Enuff 2 in k390 is surely going to be a go-to working knife for many.

I am pretty sure that the L/R Jumper will join the family soon too.

... And what about Jumpmaster 2 in k390? Just thinking loud here ... :)

Why is that photo screaming "buy a police" to me?

The photo is amazing, but what I am hoping to see in its 2.0 iteration: A K390 Stretch XL... :smirk

This would definitely be my first K390 purchase, and despite my general preference for SE I'd get this particular knife in PE.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

If they release more models in K390, I will buy them. If they release a poster I may buy it.

That's a cool photo. Interestingly enough however, the photo doesn't show them all! Where both a PE and SE option is available, only one or the other for each model actually made it into the photo.

That pic makes me want to try the enuff 2. The handle seems very well sized for me. Even more so than I assumed from just reading the specs.
Always wanted to see the OG become available in a leaf shaped salt, as I don't have much use for a SE sheepsfoot in that specific configuration, but sadly such a version never came about.
Not sure where the E2 fits into my life right now, and as much as I like k390 for EDC, I think it will be easier to find such a place for a stainless E2.

I'm hoping more factories beside Seki will get K390. A Native and/or Manix and K390 would be marriages made in heaven.

With that being said, I'm particularly looking forward to the LeafJumper in K390 if that happens.

my next purchase will likely include a wharncliffe delica or wharncliffe endura in k390.

bolster, that sage looks great. i wonder about k390 in taichung though. it's apparently been established that seki rules for k390. i think the k390 leafjumper sal teased will satiate me for this kind of mid size leaf blade in this steel.
