Forum Knife???

#1

Post by BeggarSo »

Has there been or will there be another forum knife?

The last one I purchased was in 2018 PM2 S90V Steel and cool Spyder web on the handle.

i think that was the latest one. there have been several threads about new forum knives since then. they always get really out of hand. spyderco gives us a huge variety to choose from, which draws a wide range of tastes, which means no one can agree on a forum knife.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.
current collection:
C36MCW2, C258YL, C253GBBK, C258GFBL, C101GBBK2, C11GYW, C11FWNB20CV, C101GBN15V2, C101GODFDE2, C60GGY, C149G, C189, C101GBN2, MT35, C211TI, C242CF, C217GSSF, C101BN2, C85G2, C91BBK, C142G, C122GBBK, LBK, LYL3HB, C193, C28YL2, C11ZPGYD, C41YL5, C252G, C130G, PLKIT1
spyderco steels:

Aww what a bummer. I missed out on all the earlier ones. Hmm.

How about this for an idea on how to choose a 2023 Forum Knife?

What if we did a poll and let the community decide what they thought represented the participants here the best.

Since this will be the first year for the Military 2 I vote for a 2023 Forum knife to be a M2 in Magnacut as both will take this year by storm and the handle to be up for a design contest by our more artistic members here I for one cant take a picture and make a knife look good to save my life Lol.

I think one of the other challenges has been just how backed up production has been. They just don't have excess manufacturing capacity. It's almost as if it would need to be planed 2 years in advance. Maybe when the Golden factory expansion is done.

Nothing against your idea... but this has been tried already extensively, and never really lead anywhere and never to a forum knife...

Below just the first two examples a quick search brought up..

I think they could very well chose everything themselves and then present us a forum knife on which we did not hinder the selection of properties :')
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

I think the closest we got was a UKPK in Spy-27 in Blue G10 with Forum Knife written on the backspacer. I believe that was Sal's last suggestion.

Jeff , that is correct , seemed like a fantastic idea , Nick may have suggested the backspacer ? If I remember right Sal was agreeable with idea ? Spyderco has so much on the plate very possible a Forum knife may not be a big priority . It would be pretty neat if it could be made the year the expansion is completed in Golden to also commemorate Spyderco milestone . MG2

I'd want a UKPK or the upcoming Metropolitan.

You know, that Dragonfly 2 exclusive offered on the Spydieshop would have made a nice Forum knife, too.

I’d happily pick up anything really just for the fun of it and as a keepsake. I can’t imagine thrashing a forum knife at work when I have so many others of less significant provenance to use.

Sal said it must been produced in Golden.
It should also been lega in many places.
Means non locking and blade length.

The forum guys and girls could not even agree on a model.
Not to mention the color, steel,...

I see the forum knife only coming to life it a forum boss makes a decision.
Sal brings it out according his style. And hope folks will buy it.

If I remember correctly the UKPK was the possible candidate with backspacer . I hope it becomes a reality for all members globally to have one . MG2

an all black ukpk with magnacut would be amazing. no extra markings. just a simple knife that doesn't exist elsewhere.

As far as I know that is how it was decided in 2018 as I don't recall there being a discussion earlier than that I do not remember, I used to visit the board now and then for years and due to the older format of the site mistakenly thought it was all just old posts, boy was I wrong.

Anyway if people are that controversial about everything then it makes good sense to let Spyderco decide and I am good with that.

Based on previous forum knives they have all been really neat I will buy one at least or two like I did in 2018 if I really like it.

My impression from the lack of resonance from the Spyderco side is, that there is either no sound business case, or no available production slot to make this happen. It would be nice, but I am sceptical. Maybe once Golden gets the new factory fully up and running (1 - 2 years from now).

What is the longest they ever went without a forum knife?

Seems like 5 years this coming November as I recall is a pretty long time.

We've thought about it and discussed it, but discussion hasn't proved to be fruitful. There is so little consensus that when we did make them, complaints were many and sales were poor.
