Roadie—new blue hue?

#1

Post by MrGibson »

I recently lost my old blue roadie. I got it shortly after they came out years ago.

Just ordered a new one…and the blue is a much different hue! My original (and all the blue ones I have gifted to folks over the years) was a vibrant royal blue, and this one decidedly navy blue/dark blue.

I have to say—I’m a big fan of the darker blue! Navy blue suits this little knife so well.

I’m just wondering: does anyone know when this change happened? And I wonder if the color of the red or orange has changed too?

I hate that this makes me want one of the original blue Roadies… :grin-squint

I do like that navy blue too though.

I think they are moving towards more earth tone colors. More people on this forum like earth tones. Just my opinion. I've bought some of the earth tones and like them better.

My red roadie arrived this week. I expected a darker color, but it looks good.
I am very pleased with the knife, it is perfect for me to use at work, in a place that is not very knife friendly.

I wasn’t expecting it to be so big! :zany
Just kidding. My kid loves the spyderco logo and he wanted to hold it for the photo.

Spyderco website states it as just "blue".

There is no differentiating it from the old "light" or new "navy".

So I assume the color shading is just part of the manufacturing process. And when you order it from a distributor you won't know if it's the old or new color.

I prefer earth tones as well but the collector in me is saying “get the original blue before it’s gone!” :grin-squint

It’s a blessing and a curse.
