Swapping Native 5 lightweight (FRN) scales?

#1

Post by general bacardi »

Any tips and tricks for swapping out scales for the Native 5 lightweight? I'm sure it's pretty straightforward but the one thing I'm not 100% sure about is how to get the lockbar pin out. I'm assuming you drift it out with a very small pin punch?

The pin is nested between the liners with just a reduced diameter head showing through the hole. Do not drift it out with the scales still assembled. I just pulled mine out with my fingers once it was opened up. No issues. Disassembly was very straight forward. A number of tips and tricks online for putting lockbacks back together.

Cheers

Yes no need for anything else than a T8 screwdriver for the body and pivot screws.
And a T6 if you want to remove the pocket clip, but it is not necessary if you swap scales with another LW.
The lockbar pin just slides in there nicely.

Here's how it looks like :

Keep the lock bar with its respective blade, i.e. change both to the new scales. The lock bar material may be specific to the blade material.

Forgot to mention it. I can attest that lockbar material is important. keeping the lockbar with its intended blade is important.
