Solo buttonlock
Solo buttonlock
Just received my Solo and am impressed with the blade. Can the thumb piece on the blade be moved to the other side for left handlers ?

Congratulations on your new knife. I recall they use AUS-10 on this one, a great steel. I don't know about switching the opening lobe (I guess it could be done eventually) but you'll have problems with the lock, anyway. It's not lefties friendly. <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I switched the lob on ours, and with the screws protrudeing on the other side, it's now ambedextrious. I have no problem unlocking the blade on the Solo, nor the Military left handed. The Solo is a fantastic little knife! Another modification I made is, I switched out the clip with our Almite Navigator. RKBA!

Just Got A Solo
I just got a Solo Buttonlock and I'm resurrecting this thread - this is a neat little knife!
Although it's a combo edge (I'd prefer a plain edge), the AUS10 blade shape and size looks to be very useful (this is just from initial observation - I haven't really used it yet). The size is a bit smaller than the Delica, and the G10 scales are grippy and nicely contoured. The button lock release for the liner lock appears to be quite secure, though the action isn't too smooth yet -- I assume it'll loosen up with use and some lube.
If you are interested in a cool knife and an interesting piece of Spyderco history, they are still listed as available (SKU SO05) on the website for $24.95 shipped (US). A good deal.
Any other Solo Buttonlock users/collectors out there?
Regards,
Joe

Closing the Solo BL
Just a quick note!
Take care when you are closing the Button Lock. Keep your thumb away from the button as the locking bar can easily drop behind the blade with the posibility of damaging it or having the blade not fully shut!

Thanks - I have noticed this (and I have read a similar comment on BF as well).
What I see you have to do is release the button as soon as the liner disengages and the blade is closing. If you don't, the bar attached to the button (which pushes the liner out of the way) may get in the way of the blade as it closes. Once you get used to the button mechanism, the procedure pretty much becomes second nature while closing the knife.
Thanks again,
Joe

I see what you mean Ken. I don't have any problem with closing mine tho as I always get my thumb and fingers away from the super sharp blade. I have to admit I don't carry it as I am keeping it in my little Spydie collection. Very nicely made and the handles are lightweight and nice for gripping. The box has, "Solo Botton Lock" on the side. Wonder why it's spelled "Botton"?
