models you'd like to see in the salt series

#1

Post by ladybug93 »

i was wondering what you all wish you could buy in a salt version.

i'll start... (in order of preference)

manix 2 (g10 and lw) - this is my all-time favorite knife. to combine it with ultimate corrosion resistance would combine all of my favorite things.

matriarch 2 wave - if i had this knife as a salt, it would replace my pacific salt and sit in my waistband forever as an emergency/sd blade. since i keep my pac salt iwb and i've rusted vg10 with my sweat, i really want this knife in h1. i've made the case many times for this, but i don't think spyderco is interested in my appeal or list of justifications.

rock/leaf jumper - given the sweaty and outdoor nature of these intended designs, i really think they would sell better in a salt steel. if the rock jumper was released in lc200n instead of vg10, i think it would've killed. i'd love both in lc200n and green frn.

sage 5 lw and/or para 3 lw - these would be a great smaller, but still beefy edc salt.

stretch 2 xl - this knife seems to have been made specifically to be a salt with it's linerless construction. all it needs is a different slab of steel and different colored frn.

pacific salt wharncliffe - i've wanted a pacific salt wharncliffe since i first saw the salt 2 wharncliffe and endura wharncliffe.

lil native salt - that rocks glass got us all excited, but time seems to have cause that excitement to die down. i still think it would be cool to have a lil native salt.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

There isn't a single knife I've ever bought that I wouldn't want a rust proof version of. There may be something redundant like my MagnaCut mule that's essentially already there, but folder wise if I bought it and like it I'd most likely want a Salt version too.

Just that one really.

I wouldn't mind there being an in-between Delica-sized and Endura-sized Salt knife. A little under 3.5" blades make for a great everyday knife for average sized people. The Salt series folders make for great everyday knives. I wouldn't care if that was based on the Endela or the Stretch.

However, is an in-between salt knife really necessary? The 'just under' 3in and 'just under' 4in sizes are well taken care of.

I have to agree a Manix 2 Salt would be pretty cool. The other one no one really mentions is a GB2 Salt spirt run, it has a great shape and good size. It would make for a work horse in wet conditions as its only in M4 right now.
Endura AUS-8, Manix 2 S30V, Alcyone BD1N, PM2 Micarta Cruwear, Native 5 Maxamet (2nd), Para 3 Maxamet (2nd), Magnacut Mule, Z-Wear Mule, BBB 15V Manix 2, REC PM3 10V Satin, Dragonfly Salt 2, GB2 M4.

Yep, Lil' Native Salt....fully serrated wharncliffe in LC200N, linerless G-10 in that Salt Green, and a back lock, yeah I'd buy that!

I’d love a Salt version of every LW base model. In fact, I would be more encouraged to try new models if they came Salt rated from the start.

Well I'll probably be accused of being an old LP record album with a scratch on it. But for years I've thought that the TEMPERANCE 1 model would be ideal for the SALT SERIES. For several reasons actually. First off it was one of the few Spyderco fixed blades that was available in SE & PE both. And it's a virtually perfect outdoor fixed blade.

If they would make a Salt Series version of the TEMP 1 in both edge types with corrosion resistant blade steel it would be a great affordable outdoor fixed blade knife. I've owned my two main TEMPERANCE 1 models since they were introduced in 2004. I've used both the PE & SE so much it would seem odd if I went an entire week not using at least one of them.

Yes the TEMP 1 in SE & PE would be a great addition to the SALT SERIES

I haven't had a Chaparral in some time, but a salt version I would be all over. Favorite small knife.

It would seem to me that unlined G-10 models like the native chief would be reasonably straightforward to make into salt models with only materials changes and coated hardware.

Lime green G-10, or is it toxic green?

Standard Stretch 2. Or at least an Endela. Would very much like a Seki City salt in that size range.

I would have preferred my SE Rock Jumper to be in H1, and I’d certainly like to see new designs that are intended to be Salts. But, do I want existing designs to be Saltified? Not if they clog production of new designs, Salt or not.

G10 Manix 2. Although I'm not sure how the CBBL can be "salted."

I'd like to see more G10 Salt options in general.

it's already being "salted" as a lw with magnacut.

i definitely get what you're saying. i don't want to see new development halted either. sometimes i wonder how many designs are being worked that we never see. i think sprints and exclusives put a bigger hold on production than adding a few salt models would though.

i almost put the police and chief on my list as well, but i knew someone else would bring them up. i would like to see either or both as salts. i hadn't considered the military 2, but that would be a great one too. manix xl isn't for me, but maybe we'll see a salt version if the magnacut m2lw pans out.

yes. same. i'd also like to see them all offered with coated blades. blackout models and black with green or black with yellow. not only would it look nice, but there are good reasons to have non-shiny blades paired with hi-vis handles.
