Post by apollo »

Anyone heard anything of the Amsterdam meets future?
It has bin 5 years since i last went there but i would love to go again.
But due to the loss of Jurphaas and the covid thing i wonder if this wonderful tradition will still take place? :/

I was checking in to see possible threads regarding the same thing.
No idea since there haven't been any lockdown measures last year, but there wasn't a then meet either.
It'll surely be different without Jurphaas there... :(

The Same here i have bin searching and got nothing.
Loosing Jurphaas was a bombshell that definitely did damage to Spyderco and the community.
But i hope Sal and Eric do not just give up on us now. :flushed
They always said how important the meet was to them , so pulling the plug on it forever would, be horrible. I was lucky to go 2 times and it was one of the most amazing experiences i ever had in my life.
Its many people’s only chance to “visit” Spyderco since most of us will never get to golden colorado in this life time. I hope Sal will check this topic and maybe enlighten us a bit with hopefully some bit of positive news. :no-mouth
And it may not be the same without Jurphaas but it a way if the meet continues we will be honoring him since it was kinda his baby in the Spyderco company.

I certainly wish for resurrection of the Amsterdam meet! It would be so sad to end it, i don't think Jurphaas would have wanted it to end either..

Those of us who could only participate from afar via the forum sure miss the meet. There were always new items and interesting discussion from our overseas forumites. I think it is important for Spyderco to keep vital contact with the European market.

Hey, everyone:
There are some discussions to be had here, but we hope to post more information (an official announcement) in Nov/Dec. Hang in there with us! We, too, believe the Amsterdam Meet is something special.

Kristi
There is nothing more important than this one day.

Thx but actually i am not doing much just asking and hoping...
If i would have a say in this i would totally revamp it a bit. After the meet i would have set up a mini shop with factory seconds for example. ( with seconds of all the exclusives we are not able to get ) And to make the experience realistic i would have it make an waiting q outside with some beers and fries... :winking-tongue

A small factory seconds sale actually is a brilliant idea.

I would like to keep it as it is.
Part of the charm has been that there was no deals or dealing.
Just focus on some protos and expertise and a lot of knife nuts.

Anywhway @Kristi I would like to offer some support for possible organising. I am located in Frankfurt Germany.

Best regards

Thank you anyway, if enough of us ask politely and hope for the best maybe that's enough to make it happen. Count me in on the swap meet.

That is very nice of you.
It doesnt even need to be Amsterdam in the end. Maybe a place that is closer to the 3 country border of germany , Belgium and holland would be more perfect that way milage for all the fans would be about the same.
Since all the times i went most people where Dutch, Belgian or German anyway.
It would be even good for the french people visiting then. ( Maybe even Robin could join us then if he can get away from his school kids that is. :squinting-tongue )
