Lost Calypso Jnr Ltwt

#1

Post by richard w »

Help guys! I have lost my Calypso Jnr Ltwt. I loved that knife and it travelled every where with me. I did a lot of research before originally purchasing it and the combination of blade length (under 3&quot, handle, weight and blade steel (VG10) made it my first choice.

I understand that this model has been discontinued. Is there anything else that comes close to this in terms of my requirements?

(Bear in mind I'm from the UK and we pay silly prices for knives over here, in comparison to you guys)

Thanks

There is going to be a small run of grey scale Jrs in a couple of months.

I agree that it's a great knife. I love the Calypso Jr. design. My first two, both Micarta, were given to my dad and brother. Then I couldn't find one for a while, until I posted on the WTB section on bladeforums. I picked up a LNIB Micarta model for pretty cheap. Then about a month ago, I wanted a lightweight, tip-down folder. The Calypso Jr. LWT is perfect and once again I got it by putting a want ad at bladeforums. It seems that some guys just hoarded these when they were discontinued.

Give it a try at bladeforums or wait for the grey ones.

Wow, that really hurts. The Calypso jr. managed to replace my VG-10 Delica SE as EDC, and that tells a lot - considering my commitment to the Delica.
Fortunately, you'll soon be able to get a new Calypso jr. in gray FRN handles and PE blade made out of D2 steel.

Thanks for the replies. The grey handle looks a good bet, but I understand it will not be the same blade steel as the original?
Also being in the UK I wonder if we will actually see any of these?

Richard - have you tried Heinnies? www.heinnie.com. A short while ago they had Calypso Jrs on special offer. I agree with you on this knife - it's a great EDC.

I think the grey ones will be VG10 and when they come out you can get one through SFO.

Richard:
I understand that in the UK you pay very hight retail prices for some knives. "What if" - What if you know what you want and you inform a chum in the US. He buys the knife for you and mails it to you. You send him a check. Would this work?

Hi bell,

That may work and would certainly save a whole heap of cash. However I have heard that the British Customs are pretty hot on you paying import tax on stuff from the USA. I guess though if it were a smallish single package and was a "gift" from a friend this might work.

I may have to take someone up on that.

Cheers,

Richard
