Are the corners "sharp enough" to sharpen serrations in the recommended style? Most of the seration sharpeners come to a more acute point than a right angle.

Hi, no offense but there is plenty of threads about this. To your question, no that is not good pocket stone for serrations. I would definitely recommend Double stuff 2, read some threads about it and how to use it. DB2 is specifically designed for all types of blades from Spyderco and probably rated as Best Buy of 2022 from me.

Right, I'm aware of Double Stuff 2 and own one. My question is specifically about the stone I linked. I apologize for not finding a past thread about this specific product I asked about. Could you point me to one of the plenty of threads on this particular product's use on serrations? I'd love to see that discussion.

I tried sharpening serrations using the original double stuff (which I believe has the same angles and dimensions as the product listed). It did not work well at all. I switched to a lansky pocket sharpener (which is almost identical to the sharpmaker triangle rod but shorter).

Awesome thanks! Fwiw the double stuff 2 is great. Been using mine for a couple weeks now. Carried it camping all weekend. But was curious about just getting a fine stone alone, too.

I've already found the perfect sharpening stone(s) for serrated edges>> that is for in the field or on the job type sharpening. However there is one minor problem>> Spyderco currently doesn't make them at this time.

I'm speaking of the Spyderco 701 Profile kit. They came in a pair with a "medium" and "fine" stone. When they discontinued them I bought two extra sets so I'm good for a while. But the 701 Profiles do a really nice job.

Also there is the Spyderco GOLDENSTONE. It has the radii for the scallops and the corners for the spikes. But most of the time in the field ( hunting, fishing ect) I usually just take a set of the 701 Profiles and they have served me well over the years.

I'm holding out hope that Spyderco will re-introduce the 701 Profiles in the not so distant future.

Wow, JD is the catalyst to make old things reappear. He's done it with the Ayoob, now the Profiles. I wonder if he can do that for my hair and waistline??

The files are small but would still work to sharpen a knife. The set includes the Teardrop file linked above, a circular rod, a square rod, and a triangle rod.

This file set seems like one of those products they make that not many people even know about. None the less, I’m intrigued to see the nee set Spyderco has in the works.

It depends on pocket size but they are small enough to fit in a pocket. Back pockets would probably accommodate the size a little better than front pockets.

The files are relatively thin though and I would probably be concerned about durability while carrying them around in pocket. They may be prone to snapping in that type of use.

I have the 400F set, which is very useful (especially the slip Yab mentions) and pocketable (maybe not a back pocket), but this set is not the 701 ProFile set that JD has long championed (and I missed out on).

I don’t know if the “New ProFile set” Sal mentions will be anything like the 701, but we can hope. Check out the original ProFile’s profile here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=83829&p=1328611&hil ... e#p1328813

They also made a 702 set once upon a time. Same shape as the 701 but half the length which made them much easier to carry around. If I remember right, the 702s were the same length as the file set. Pocketable, but don't forget you're carrying it or you might break it.

I keep a Lansky Spyder sharpener in my tackle box (https://lansky.com/index.php/products/spyder-sharpener/) and I have a second one for my get-home bag. It does a great job of free-hand sharpening Spyderedge knives because the three different points of its “triangle” shape are designed to be perfect fits for (1) the large Spyderedge scallop, (2) the small Spyderedge scallop, and (3) a general purpose point like a Sharpmaker stone. The flats of the stone are also good for sharpening plain edge knives and it has a groove for hook sharpening. My serrated Spydercos are virtually all H1, so it provides a nice, toothy edge in no time flat.
