2001 the original was fantastic. There have been a few others, but 2001 is a movie that stands out for the decades it has remained a must see movie.

I grew up watching Flash Gordon, and as fake as that is it's still fun to watch.

2001 is exactly how you describe it, and Flash Gordon is one of the last classics left on my list to source, total cheesefest but fun, self-aware and the VFX from the seventies and eighties are quite hilarious. Funny how nobody ever mentions 2010: The Year We Make Contact from 1984...

I think that I saw 2010...talk about a foggy memory. I'll watch some film clips on YouTube to refresh my memory.

Check out the trailer for "65" coming out in March. Might be good.

If you say so Doc, I watched in original Viking speak without subtitles so didn't really catch much of the story, even if it sounds quite similar to our local dialect at times. These áre the Northern Territories Doc where pagan traditions predate Christianity by several millennia.

Yeah, I'm aware. It took the approach from the pagan point of view. Still, it was a good and exciting movie and I enjoyed. I wonder what the sequel will be?

I just heard of this movie this morning and watched it for free on YouTube. It's fictional, but is done in a documentary style. It's well-acted, and IMO, is the best-done "mockumentary" style movie I've seen.

I have a feeling that the writer(s) were inspired by David Paulides' real-life Missing 411 research, and added their own theory as to what could be the cause of some mysterious vanishings (though Paulides himself has never suggested what the cause or causes might be). The movie is well-done enough to seem plausible. So plausible that some people who crave cheap Hollywood 'jump scares' will probably find it boring. I did not.

Glad you liked it, it seems Netflix has been investing in quality over quantity again lately after flooding their platform with mostly pulp during the pandemic. One I recently saw and liked was Everything everywhere all at once. Michelle Yeoh really shines in this while Jamie Lee Curtis is simply terrifying and Data from the Goonies proudly gets to put his outstanding martial art skills on display.

My fav is Passengers. I rewatched it yesterday. Wonderful and the acting is great

For some weird reason I woke up thinking about this movie. It's quite funny and cheesy.

Sci-fi afficionados are likely aware of Luc Besson and even beyond the genre he is widely known for establishing Jean Reno as the ultimate anti-hero and Gary Oldman as evil incarnate in Léon, or The Professional as it was known abroad, and jumpstarting Nathalie Portman's career in the process. But that's not what this review is all about, even though Nathalie Portman seems to be a recurring trend lately... and she's about my age too but probably happily married to some devilishly handsome dude that works out more than me. This brings us to the fifth element, which ***spoiler alert*** is actually love. That's the beauty of Besson's script, he started writing it as a shy teenage boy and by the time he had a shot at making it decades later it was so polished and original that everything contemporary kinda paled in comparison. As such it really is a love letter to all the cheesy seventies and eighties pulp a lot of us grew up on. Being a bit of a nonconformist I tend to gravitate towards movies that most people generally don't like or would consider inferior. But the Fifth Element is just a spectacle from beginning to end, not only that, it also carries its big heart on its sleeve and is probably the last movie starring Bruce Willis with hair. And you can tell why he decided to start shaving cuz his hair is really getting thin around the edges in this. So proud of brother Bruce that he got a pair of clippers instead of a Turkish hair transplant.

Enter the fifth element, aka Leeloo who turns freshly middle-aged Korben Dallas' world upside down when she falls into his zero gravity powered vintage yellowcab after being genetically resurrected from a few cells left over from a catastrophic failure/ambush/sabotage event which had been foretold centuries ago. This whole series of events results in Korben getting his license suspended after one too many strikes and plunging himself headfirst into what ends up as a lethal face-off with Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg, weapons dealer extraordinaire and a fan of clean, methodical killers. Being the only one of his unit left alive and despite retiring from military service 6 months prior, Major Dallas is covertly contracted against his will to basically save the world. From whát we don't know at this point but small clues can be found left and right as to the cosmic nature of this evil force communicating with Commander Zorg which seems hellbent on chaos and destruction. Enter awesome nineties bi-curious Chris Tucker and it's a party from here on out which I'd rather enjoy instead of describing on my phone so watch it!

Seriously, no excuses, it's the most awesomest sci-fi spectacle since Barbarella and deserves respect... even better, buy it on DVD or blu-ray to support cast & crew and then watch Valerian. Did I even mention UK jungle legend Tricky who remotely ***spoiler alert*** gets blown tf up... and what's up with that dang cutie answering Mr. Shadow's calls over at Zorg HQ? Do yourselves a favor and find out for yourself. Happy holidays y'all! Looking forward to dive into the 21st century soon...
