In Time (2011) is on Hulu in case anyone wants to watch it. I had not heard of it so I’ll watch it over the long weekend. The concept of time as a bartering currency, everyone either dies or doesn’t age past 25, the rich becoming immortal, etc. are all intriguing.

If you ever visit the Battleship USS Iowa Museum in SoCal make sure you also visit the Los Angeles Maritime Museum just 500 yards south of USS Iowa. It has a wonderful collection of large-scale models of ships.

A Boy and His Dog (1975) is an unusual and funny movie with a great ending.

I saw A Boy And His Dog in a theater in San Diego. I think it was the first run. At the end of the movie, after the famous closing line, a woman in the audience started SCREAMING: "that's sick, sick, sick..".

It was an interesting intersection of feminist triggering vs SciFi that added to the movie's thematic experience.

My steelbook blu-ray also has the 01:49:16 cut so I may be imagining that director's cut. While rewatching this it still shines as a Robin Hood set in the not too distant future, quite mature for being made for gen z. I can't shake off the torment our male protagonist feels throughout for allowing his mom to offer him 30 minutes for a long lunch. Production design is sleek with my personal highlights the various vintage restomods, which are raw with a touch of sci-fi. Andrew Niccol came on the big scene with Gattaca, according to many people a true masterpiece. Never watched that one even though I really like Ethan Hawke.

Gattaca (1997) is admittedly a much better movie than In Time (2011) but both, in my opinion, are a little detached and hollow. Both were written and directed by Andrew Niccol.

If I had to choose just one sci-fi movie released thus far this century it would have to be Minority Report (2002). It’s based on a short novel by Philip K. Dick about a pre-crime police unit and directed by Steven Spielberg. In my opinion, this is also Spielberg’s best sci-fi movie. It’s a fluid and entertaining sci-fi crime thriller. I’ve watched it a good half a dozen times and appreciate it more with each viewing due to the complex plot.
