I may have mistakenly placed this in the wrong forum, so I'll place it here as well. I recently received this spydiechef as a gift, but the person who gifted it to me got it from Amazon. To me, this looks legit, but I was referred by some reddit subs, so I thought I'd give it a try.

I can post box pictures if necessary.

Thanks

Just judging by the spyderco logo it looks like an actual Taiwan made knife. Can you take a closer picture of the logo? Taiwan has a very specific laser pattern and most companies making fakes won't invest in a laser.

Nothing looks obviously out of place. Lockup appears to be in a good place too, I think you got a good one. Legit stuff comes from Amazon, the problem is when someone buys the real thing but returns a counterfeit that then gets sent to the next buyer unaware. Personally I stick with reputable dealers who are likely to catch this scam better than the average Amazon employee trying to meet their quota for the day.

The only fake I've seen of the chef is like two-thirds scale so im pretty sure yours is legit.

Not to say an actual correct size one doesn't exist, but I imagine they've moved on to newer models, like the swayback.

Also, try sticking a magnet to the scales and see if they're actually Titanium. Most of the production cost of that knife I would imagine is the scales. Wouldn't make too much sense for a knock off to use the actual expensive materials right?

Almost all of the fakes I've seen of titanium Spydercos are legit titanium. Maybe not 6al4v, but titanium.

A mamba is the only fake I've seen (off the top of my head) that wasn't titanium, when the legit model was.

If the lanyard tube rattles it is legit! 😀
