They really are a graceful animal for their size.
I can see graceful. I'd even go so far as to call them shockingly stealthy for their size. I've never been able to reconcile how something so large can move so silently and hide so well. This is one of the few animals I've ever gone out of my way to look for. I've tracked some for days with never a glimpse. They truly are a magnificent creature.
I brag about my Whitetail in my backyard but my sister ups me . She lives in Wasilla , Alaska and has Moose bed in her backyard. Little sisters are like that ! ;) Dan

For those that don't live by the sea, it's an Osprey.

We do have them in Illinois but they migrate through the winter . They are mainly a fish eater but I have seen them as well as Eagles feed off Deer carcass . I have Eagles fly over my house but only see Osprey in the River bottoms in the Spring and Summer . Very beautiful bird . Dan

Osprey are tormented around here by bald eagles. They wait for the osprey to grab a fish and then attack them and get them to drop the fish. The eagles grab the fish in mid-air. I would like to get a photo of that.
Many years ago I lived in Illinois, as well. We had almost no wildlife in those days.

My home is on the edge of the Mackinaw River bottoms , so I am lucky to have all sorts of birds and animals venture through our backyard . Dan

I came out one morning to see this in my neighbors tree:

Water Moccasin I trapped under a bucket after a stressful time of shooing away from the front door. It now lives on a venom farm.

A Skink I rescued. Colors are even more beautiful in the sunlight.

I've got more if I can find them, like the baby gator that made a couple of visits to the backyard. 🐊

I believe they are black vultures, pretty common around here. You usually don’t see so many all in one tree staring at you!

I thought may be a Vulture but thought I should ask . We have the Turkey Vulture here sometime we can have as many as 20 soaring over our property catching the warm thermos in town . I’ve only had one in yard and it was after a Great Horned Owl killed and ate a Raccoon in backyard . There was nothing left except a few tuffs of fur when he flew off . Saved me big time cleaning it up and not freaking out the wife ! Thank you !

Sometimes my get as close as possible approach to photographing wildlife is ill advised but thankfully it didn't go as wrong as it could this day.
