Blade HQ Metal Handle PM2s

They did copper, twice. They are in the process of doing aluminum twice. What's next from the periodic table of knives?

Could it be the fabled Ti handled production model?

Titanium with an integral comp lock is overdue.

I think a Ti PM2 would be really cool. Hopefully it would be regular production and not an exclusive. Undoubtedly it would be very popular.

I wonder if it would be more likely we see a Ti PM2 look more like the other blade hq metal ones, which have a steel leaf for a locking tab? An integral Ti compression lock would take a redesign, where it might be easier to engineer a Ti PM2 closer to versions which already exist.

I think non-integral may be easier to disengage as well, because there is more room on the show side to place your hand as you press the lock tab. However, integral certainly would be special from a design standpoint, and would make a beautiful centerpiece in my personal collection, at least.

I was thinking the same thing. Need a handle material that has some real excitement factor! :zany

Magnesium is lighter and more flammable than aluminum! Might be fun for Spyderco?

Good point on the magnesium... and in an emergency survival situation you can make shavings of your knife handle for firestarter!

Maybe one scale out of sodium and one out of magnesium, you lick the sodium scale as a source of ignition and the magnesium scale burns long enough to light your tinder.

(as a disclaimer... all of this is a bad idea!)

Too heavy! I want a lighter knife. Magnesium would be lighter and could be used as a lighter!

Magnesium is a fine material, and would be pretty awesome as a knife handle I think! I don't think it's that flammable as long as you don't make shavings and apply a spark...so should be good to go!

I was thinking flammable as in during the manufacturing process. I remember reading about it at one point, knife makers don't like using it because it can start fires easily and then you can't put it out without specialty fire extinguishers. :respect

Magnesium is kinda hard to start on fire but yeah not super safe. Good if you have to start a bushcraft fire.

Biggest problem is it doesn't tolerate salt water. Lots of mishaps from Mg parts getting dunked in the ocean and then turning into grey dust.
