Sharpening horror

Someone posted this up in a FB knife group. He had this Manix sharpened by one of those mobile knife sharpening companies. Aside from being ground to all heck, it looks like the edge has been overheated as well. Curious what you folks would suggest for this fellow to do?

Throw it on eBay with a 99 cent starting bid and let the market determine what little value it has left. Then buy a new one and treat it with the respect it deserves.
That's what I would do at least... :)

I think that mobile knife sharpening company should have to pay for the knife.

I would suggest he learns to sharpen.
That's an unfortunate but not terribly surprising result.
I mean we could get into wrapping sandpaper around blocks and trying to thin things and what not but that is bad and if this person already didn't want to sharpen, well... That's a life lesson right there.

Yikes! That’s sad.
I’d use it as a true beater. Still super comfortable in hand. Maybe test the sharpness on the tires of the mobile sharpener vehicle.
Buy a new one for during the week if they feel it necessary.
Otherwise I guess take it as a life lesson and move on…..

No, the owner just invented, and become owner of, the first Lil Manix.

i'd like to obtain a broken g10 manix on the cheap for swapping a blade into someday, especially now that we're expecting a lw magnacut manix with screws.

I'd ditch it and start over haha. Then I'd get a Sharpmaker and learn how to use it

That was my thought- it would be a great candidate for a blade swap from a lightweight.

Man he paid someone to murder his manix. You could do that yourself for free lol

I would test the sharpness by sticking it in the tire of the mobile sharpening service. Oh, was I the only one thinking that?
On a serious note, I hope he got refunded but the sharpening service owes him a new knife.

Hopefully he takes it as motivation to learn to sharpen his own knives! There are extremely few people in this world that I would trust to sharpen my knives for me... maybe none.
Looks like it's time for a new knife, and a sharpmaker to go with it, unfortunately. I doubt anybody who "professionally" sharpens a knife like that will do anything for him at this point.

I've heard of a compound grind before but never a compound edge bevel.

I’ve mates who sharpen about the same.
Saddest thing is the kook that sharpened it prolly reckons he did a good job.

Did he learn his lesson?
If not, he needs to buy another knife and then give it to another Five Dollar Sharpening Service. Keep repeating these steps for as long as it takes him to figure out that you get what you pay for.
If he DID learn his lesson, then he needs to throw down the cash for proper sharpening tools. Then he can teach himself some skills using the screwed up knife. When he becomes competent, he can buy a new knife and he'll know not to let anyone else touch it.

Happened to me years ago, though not this bad. At least it's not a rare/discontinued or especially expensive model.
This just gets worse the more you look at it. First the recurve, then the multiple extra bevels, and then the discoloration. Idk why, but the amount of material removed from the tang is the worst part. Just look at that nub! The sharpener has to have been impaired.
I'd call it a very expensive lesson learned. I'm not as militant as other folks on this forum about everyone needing to learn to sharpen, (I mean the should, but I get that it's a lot of time and commitment) but at least sending the knives to Spyderco seems to be what can be gleaned from this.

What did it look like before they sharpened it?
