I like the clean look of the satin blade and white frn together. It’s very slick. Even better is that as the blade develops a patina and the white handle gets grungy from use it will become pocket graffiti and it will be unique to the owner. That’s pretty cool.
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.

Are there aftermarket scales for the native 5 lw? Do the scales swap between other native 5 lw?

It was too good of a deal for me to pass up, I don’t own any Rex-45. I heave heard that it has crazy good edge stability.

I can't believe this thing is only $112. Is a silicon carbide stone (King Neo 800) sufficient for Rex45?

Less expensive than the standard S30V/FRN Native! :astonished Might be able to make some headway with the King, but diamond is probably the way to go given the high wear/hardness.

I actually just emailed Flytanium today, asking them to make scales for the Native 5 (info@flytaniumco.com). Their titanium scales turn the lil' Native into an amazing knife.

There don't seem to be any aftermarket scales for the Native 5, which is odd given how popular it is. Perhaps the lack of liners on the lightweight/salt make it more difficult? Flytanium has made liner-free scales, so I'm hoping we'll see that... liner-free metal scales are really sweet (titanium or aluminum would be awesome!).

And to answer your question, I don't see why you couldn't swap scales between the various lw natives (but to be honest, I've never tried). I'm planning to dye these white scales blue, for the future Magnacut salt blade. (The Rex 45 blade is going to be for regrind experimentation.)

What a great price. I bet we see a $99 sale with how slow these are probably moving. I couldn't help myself... Garage duty, day one.

I'd love to see a $99 sale. I got one with the DLC coating which I see has now finally sold out. I jumped on the Blade HQ sale of their Mint DLC M4 at $109.

This one would be a nice companion to the LW Para 3 version.

Totally agree with this. I'd jump all over this at $99 and use it hard.

I just got the non dlc version today, can't wait to really push this steel. I did notice something weird, the swedge isn't finished like the the rest of the blade. It looks like it was just rough ground. Is this the way it was meant to be?

Mine is the same way. Not sure if all Natives look like that, but probably saves them abrasives to leave the finish in a higher grit given the hardness of the steel.

I guess that's how it is huh. Yeah I couldn't pass it up at $112. I almost bought a Bradford Guardian in Rex 45 for the same price but I don't really carry fixed blades. It's also illegal to carry them concealed in MI so I just went with the Spydie.

No shame in that choice for sure! Plus the native lw are almost your folding mules. I know you have compared several in different steels. Can’t wait to see what you think of Rex! I’m still rocking that amazing edge you put on that Spy27 one. Thanks much!

If any USA forumites would like to play freight forwarder please send me a message. I would love one of these but gpk has a $200 minimum international orders and aren’t shipping to AUS/NZ for some reason.

Yeah the Native 5 is one of my favorite Spydercos and plan on getting more steels in this model. Need to get one in G10 at some point probably some S30v since I haven't tried any from Spyderco yet.

Rex 76 is pretty interesting if it's 68-70 hrc because it sharpens more like a softer steel. I'll use the factory edge for awhile on the 45 before putting my own edge on it. Surprised your still running the same edge on the Spy27, I guess I'm rough on knives and have to sharpen them often. I have some CGSW stones now I think I used Venev stones on your N5.
