Even though it's pricey the fact that they shortened the blade really appeals to me. My workplace restricts knife length so having a slightly shorter Urban works perfectly for me.

Thanks for pointing out the Urban price senfkarte.
$280 is a lot for any knife, but I dont think it is by any measure over priced, and this lines up with knives like the 40th Anniversary Native. It's in the ballpark of what I expected back when the knife was first discussed. Especially after you factor in the yearly cost increase.

Damasteel is expensive, but to anyone that doesn't have a 40th anniversary, I would say it's worth the premium. Timing means I'll have to pass on a few other knives like the St. Nicks Chief, but I'm really excited for this one.

I still want one. I can't afford one. Hmmm. Wife, knife, wife, knife...?

Hahah, one of those could cost you more than $280 in the long run! :winking-tongue

I hope that ivory g10 gets used more. A production model would be sweeter. Cool color.

I like the Ivory, but frankly the G10 is what makes this price point so undigestible. If it were a premium material, like wood or titanium or had inlays, something...almost anything...

As it is, and having experienced Maniago's attempt at fit and finish on an Urban before, this model just feels like getting gouged in the eye.

Poorly finished G10, a gritty action and under-performance steel with swirls does not equal ~$300, inflation or not.

I understand that I am preemptively projecting what will ultimately amount to be empathy, but nevertheless...

I'll definitely buy this one. I have a soft spot for 'legal mostly everywhere' and I like the looks of it. I realize it's impractical and expensive--I'm still getting one.

I will probably end up with custom scales on it. But I'm not sure what, at this point.

If you do put scales on it, I'd like to have the originals if you want to get rid of them.

I was interested in this one but having returned not one but two of the Maniago S90v for fit and finish reasons, I'm going to pass on this. If it was from Golden, that would be a different story.

Spyderco is aware of the past problems and I have to believe that they have been addressed.

I do hope this does well for the sake of Superfool’s work in suggesting such materials and especially so a UKPK can be made eventually.
I think it’s pretty snazzy and seeing Bjorkmans twist is neat since that’s the damasteel pattern I voted for in Superfool’s polls.
I do too. What will be will be, but hopefully the DAMAUKPK will come to pass.

Its weird, but I feel that the UKPK has a sort of cult status about it, with the rescue, range of G10s, carbon fibre, Ti, LC200n, s110v, and HH versions.

The Urban just doesnt have that thing going on, but its still a great knife I am sure.

Poor Superfool asked for UKPK in this steel, but got a very, very expensive Urban. I guess not every shot will score a goal.
It will come to pass.

We WILL have a DAMAUKPK. I am certain of it.

Don't forget us Sal.

And it will be even pricier, being Made in Golden.....

Honestly... At the price Spyderco is asking for the Damasteel Urban... I would just have my own made at this point. It wouldn't cost much more, and you could get exactly what you want.

A 4" piece of Damasteel in the pattern of your choice would cost $50.

$200 buys you a the work on the steel (CNC, heat treat, etching, profiling, sharpening, etc).

Throw in the cost of a donor UKPK and you're not much beyond the $280 price tag of the Urban.

The price of the Urban doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The Spyderco Urban in G10 and S90V from Heinnie costs $165.

A 4" piece of S90V runs $10. A 4" piece of Damasteel runs $50. That puts the cost of a Damasteel UKPK at about $205. I'm not sure that $75 extra dollars to dip the Damasteel in an etching solution is very reasonable.
