would like opinions on the Cricket

#1

Post by PATRICK »

I own an endura and love it but want a smaller knife. none of the knife stores carry it and before I place a special order, I would like to know what cricket owners think of it. Should I get the plain edge (my endura is spyder edge) or serrated? Should I get ss or lw? Finally, in a pinch could it be used for self-defense? Thanks.

I love the cricket its a small handy knife but for self defense I dont think so, mine are in spyderedge and works great if you can find an almighty (discontinued) grab it.

Any well sharpened knife can be used for self defense in a pinch. A well placed blow from a 1.5" blade can kill someone, not even hitting the neck... I carry a 3", daily carry, and find it a great size. I would be concerned about trying to use anything less than 3" to defend my self, as you have to actually aim your blow then. A big blade takes less time to hit with, but a small blade allows for deeper penetration(between ribs), and for more hits.

I may get my father a cricket as a fathers day gift, and I can see him using it as a daily carry. As a general use knife, it's great, but self defense wouldn't be high on it's list of uses.

We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

My cricket is attached to my keys and keeps me from ever loosing them. Having it on your key ring puts it in your hand when your walking to your car and all you would have to do, is give it a quick flick to have it ready for use. I've given probably 20 away to friends and relatives. And I believe it would work for self defense. If someone came up and grabbed you from behind, a quick slash to their forearm would make them let go or dig it into their leg and then run. Remember 60% of people pass out from the sight of their own blood. Right now you can only get serrated FRN ones I believe.

I use a FRN Plain Cricket as a daily carry and love it. The plain edge is very sheeple friendly; even my Mom wants one now that she has used mine once or twice. I also have a Carbon Fiber Serrated (discontinued), but that stays at home with the collection. I love the shape of the blade and the overall shape of the knife. But if you're looking for a more standard blade shape, the Navagator might fit the bill.

As for self-defense, the reverse-S blade is similar to the Civilian, so it should work in a pinch, but at a much closer range.
