I have not purchased one yet, but they are interesting. It does make you think about the belt as a weapon.

I have a few weird impulse buys that aren’t folders. As a city dweller usually after a marathon of zombie TV or something silly.

A Condor daodao sword, RMJ Weezerker hatchet, and a 5’ poly snake whip which was a fun but short lived hobby.

My favorite EDC striking tool though has to be a 18650 cell flashlight. Nothing with a “assault bezel”, just something that adds a little weight and acts as a fist load/kuboton. I have a couple P60 copper bodies that end up depending on configuration at 13oz and about 18 as a full copper. Nice for the coat pocket very unlikely to ever be needed but on a dark night a good flashlight is functionally a lovely thing.

How’s the head attachment?

That always seemed like the weak spot on those things. So many cool designs, though!

The Wingard Wearables Empress hawk is designed to be a self defense concealed carry hawk. They make a left or right handed versions. The blade shape mimics the Megladon shark tooth.

How’s the head attachment?

That always seemed like the weak spot on those things. So many cool designs, though!

The head is secured by the tapered hickory handle. From the factory, they tend to have a sloppy fit. I reshape the hickory handle to exactly fit the tapered eye of the head. There is no way the head will fly off when fitted correctly, unless the handle breaks at the tapered portion. For the price, they make great projects.

Ahhhh that makes sense.

I used to sell them, and hated that they mostly seemed to be held on by the set screw. I could definitely see one of these as a great project.

Please pardon my ignorance. But what exactly would this axe/hawk be useful for? Is it job specific for a certain job or is it an elaborate SD weapon?

Is this tool maybe to be used in the "martial arts" sector? Or does it have a viable use for other jobs as well?

The Empress hawk isn’t designed as a camp/ hatchet type tool. Geared as a self defense tool. The Megladon tooth shaped blade is designed to penetrate and withdraw easily. Other designs with a bearded head may get stuck once applied. The curved spike is meant for trapping, not penetrating like modern “tactical” hawks. Zach At Wingard Wearables explains his design better.

Overall, it is a modern interpretation of a Spontoon hawk, but shrunken down for concealed carry. A kydex harness comes with it and keeps the user from hurting themselves, but easily drawn for self defense.

I have two Gransfors Bruks splitting axes, to feed the wood burning stove in winter. Splitting nasty knotted Australian hardwoods.

- Splitting maul - 2 years old
- Small splitting axe - 10+ years old

The overstrike collars must have saved me a small fortune by now, both are still on the original handles.

The small splitting axe has been used a lot, but still looks new because I keep it clean and oiled. It is a versatile size, it can power through serious chunks two-handed, or split kindling one handed.


The maul is a beast, and mostly feature as a problem solver of last resort. Just look at that grain! This is the benefit of buying in-store vs online.


Length perspective:


The hatchet is an old Stanley Steelmaster 2 lb, and the hammer is an Estwing 16 oz rip claw.

Great stuff so far folks. Here's mine:


The one of the far left is an old Bridgeport Boxing Hatchet, think it's from the 30s or 40s. Found it in the woods when I was a teenager, and my Dad helped me get it back in working order. Used to use it as a camping axe, but haven't much since acquiring the others.



The other three are from Hults Bruk. For 3 years or so, I spent my REI dividend on Hults Bruk. The Almike is a 1# 16", Aneby is a 2# 20", and the Kisa is a 2# 26". I use the Almike around the fire pit, and take the Kisa car camping.

I thought I'd like the Aneby a lot more, but the 6" of extra handle on the Kisa only weighs 0.1#, so it wins 9 times out of 10. I think I'd like something with a 1# head and a 20-22" handle quite a bit.

I designed this variation of a fighting tomahawk. From my past careers in the Military and LE, plus being a practitioner of FMA and Silat, this design complements my skillsets. I took design traits from my northern cousins from the Philippines (Igorots) head hunter axe. I shrunk it down so one can easily integrate this with modern Mil gear and even conceal it under a light over garment.

This design is NOT made for normal camping chores.

I named it : “Multo” (means ghost in my native language).

Thank You! The prototype was made by me, but my friend refined and made my design. The main edge is razor sharp and is designed to penetrate and slice the intended target without resistance. I already tried it on several meat targets, which my wife wasn’t too pleased.
