Looks good. I destroyed the scales on my 110v M2LW when trying to disassemble it a while back without a drill press. The next one I do I'm going to drill a slightly larger hole than the rivet head in a piece of sheet metal. Then it gets clamped over the rivet being worked on so only the head is exposed. Should prevent any damage when using a Dremmel.IowaGeologist wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 11:06 amI took the plunge and did my SPY 27 LW. Not going to lie, I love tinkering, but this was a pain in the ***. Not sure how people can do it without a drill press. Started with a Dremmel and took out a chunk of scale doing the rivet near the pivot before a switched to the drill press.

Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
Thanks! I'll have to rig up a better clamp system even with a drill press, this was still moving around a little too much for my liking. Also will need to use an awl to get a good central spot for the drill bit, I noticed even my smaller pilot bits were skating around a bit.Josh Crutchley wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 12:36 pmLooks good. These rivets are tough.
Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
I used a center punch to prevent my bits from walking. It was very effective, and I didn’t mar my scales even without a drill press. I think I prefer it without the press due to allowing more finesse and extra feel of how the process is going.IowaGeologist wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 3:51 pmThanks! Interesting, did you use a Dremmel, hand drill, or power drill?attila wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 4:06 pmI used a center punch to prevent my bits from walking. Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
I used a cordless drill with a small bit and then a burr for getting the rivet heads thin enough to shear when punching them through the washer underneath the head.IowaGeologist wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 4:15 pmInteresting, did you use a Dremmel, hand drill, or power drill?attila wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 4:06 pmI used a center punch to prevent my bits from walking. The lock housing bar and mini liner I drilled out with a drill press, but I could have done that by hand too.
I did not drill the FRN except for reaming one of the holes a little bit.
I detailed the process in this and a few more posts:

Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
I just bought a new M2LW bd1n steel all black dlc with pinned construction!..... About time, hopefully they do this to all lw models.....
Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
I noticed the 2023 catalogue shows the SPY27 version with all screws. I had just ordered a manix 2 lightweight in SPY27 but upon reading up about the conversion I called my retailer and they said they only had pinned versions in stock.
This is in the Netherlands btw, how do the manix 2 regularly come in the states at the moment? To gouge the level at which pinned units have been phased out in favor of screwed ones. I cancelled my order, hope the transition comes to eu soon!

Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
They aren’t going to take them off the shelves. They will sell them and eventually the screwed version will start showing up.
You will need to call around to see who has what.

Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
I contacted Spyderco back in August 2022 and asked about the pins/screws and was told they had the CQI and were now screwed. I ordered one from SFO the next week and the Manix 2 LWT did indeed have screws. I'm sure dealers stock may still vary. MANIX™ 2 FRCP BLACK C101BK2 CTS BD1N

Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
Has anyone seen a screwed Maxamet LW in the wild yet?
Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
What do you think the chances are, of Spyderco reissuing discontinued, pinned LW Manixes?
For instance, if I want a 20CV LW Manix in the translucent blue (long ago disco'd), is there any reason to hope for a reissue with screws?

Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
if knifejoker did another run of the 20cv m2lw, i'm guessing it would have screws instead of pins because that's how spyderco is making them now.
my coworker ended up ordering a standard m2lw with bd1n and black frcp and it has screws. it was nice to see in person. i can't wait for my magnacut m2lw salt!

Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
I didn't say what I meant, sorry. Try again:
What do you think the chances are, of Spyderco reissuing steels that were in previous pinned Manix LWs...in new screwed Manix bodies? What are the chances we'll ever see, for example, a screw construction LW manix in 20cv again? I'm trying to figure out whether to wait and hope for previous steels in new bodies, or to buy pinned on the used market.
I'm guessing the answer is: the past is the past, if you want a certain disco'd steel in a M-LW, better get one on the used market because chances of that steel coming around again in screw construction are slim. But...I'm not sure. What do you think?

Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
Bolster, I'd say your assessment is spot on. If you want 20cv I'd get it while the getting is good!
Re: Manix2 lwt Still Pinned
There's always the possibility that another dealer will commission a M2 LW exclusive with 20CV with different color handleBolster wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 10:14 pmWhat do you think the chances are, of Spyderco reissuing steels that were in previous pinned Manix LWs...in new screwed Manix bodies? Personally, the 5 pinned M2 LWs I've had have been great. If I wanted a version of that model and it was pinned I certainly wouldn't wait around for one with screw construction. I saw someone mention the other day that they got a model with screw construction and the action was great etc. All of my M2 LWs with pinned construction have been great too. I appreciate that they've gone to screw construction but I won't be trading in any of my pinned versions
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
