The Caribbean is also a Salt, and it has G10 scales with liners.

Jim

It's probably most comparable to a Para 2, so if the Caribbean can be made into a Salt, then I don't think the overall construction of the knife is a limiting factor. It just comes down to cost and if Spyderco thinks it'll sell. They could do away with the entire Salt lineup and make Salt variants of everything that's not currently a Salt if they wanted to, but I suspect that there's a good profit in FRN lightweight handles once the cost of the mold is earned back. You don't see that potential increase in profits with G10 and liners.

True.

I still would like to someday see a linerless G10 Salt version of the Native Chief or the Native 5. G10 back locks are fine without liners.

Now, whether or not linerless G10 Salts have a high enough sales potential to warrant producing them is another story.

Jim

Wow, as much as I want one, I'm thinking that the Rex45 FRN seems a better deal while they last.

That is a great knife for the price. I picked up an extra. I’m talking about the Rex45.

The Magnacut is on pre-order at the Black Friday price. That’s was a good deal too.😬

Only $65 over the regular retail price.

So greedy…

Hmm, not sure I'd say greedy. But I'm notoriously cheap! Plus, it will be around for a while, whereas the Rex45 will be gone soon.

Can Confirm the Rex 45 is an excellent deal. My Co-worker just used mine to cut through some wire reinforced Vacuum Tubing…. damage wasn’t too bad.

Trying to be patient, but I'm so ready to buy a Native 5 plain edge in Magnacut. Does anyone know a dealer that has it in stock for a reasonable price?

actually it is MSRP at $216. but in reality I'm not aware of any retail outlet that doesn't sell for about 30% discount, so, yeah. But I don't think of it as greed, it is simply supply and demand. If they lose future business b/c of this price on the Native Salt 5 Magnacut PE, that's just business too.

Country Knives is a brick and mortar store that's been around since 1976. They always charge full retail price and, based on their longevity, I'd have to say it's a business model that works for them. If you don't like it, don't do business with them. Easy, right?

I will be getting a PE Native 5 Salt in MagnaCut when available.

My LC200N Atlantic Salt sat in my dry suit exterior pocket (accidentally) for 2 weeks after a salt water dive and showed no signs of rust or pitting.

I’m hoping MagnaCut performs somewhere in this range with its corrosion resistance, as I frequently work in a salt water environment. The PE is what is most intriguing to me, as I have various SE I carry already.

Has anyone actually gotten a MC PE Native from Country Knives? It seems pretty unlikely that they would have gotten a shipment, and two weeks later no other retailers would have received anything. I wonder if their page is just for a preorder, and these things still haven't shipped anywhere?

I would suspect if they have it, theirs are collector club issued.

Just ordered the plain edge from eBay, it's a good dealer with 100% rating. They have about a dozen available. Seller is robcoknivesllc
Been waiting for this one for awhile and itching to try some magnacut. Was a little close to buying a Sebenza in magnacut but was thrilled to see this plain edge Native finally drop.

. Evidently no longer available. But it is good to see the product getting distributed after a long wait. I'm assuming it will be more available than "a dozen" at various retailers over the next couple of weeks.

Actually they are not dropping yet. I received a refund and apology message from the seller, the plain edge listing was an accident and I was told it should drop in a few more weeks. They also said they would reserve one for me and to top it off only charge me the price they get it for, so no complaints here. Now I just need to hunt for a different magnacut knife to buy, because at this point my curiosity about the steel is just too high.

This may have been asked before, but can the Native Magnacut blade be switched out and put on G10 scales or does the fact that its a LW knife prevent the use of aftermarket scales?

You would need the back spacer that’s on the g10 models. The LW does not have one. Otherwise I’m not sure if the blades are compatible.

Does the Spyderco FRN take well to dying, and if so, where would I buy some dye that would do the job? I like the Native 5 LW, but I hate the bright yellow scales. I'm intending for it to be a gentleman's carry, so would want it a dark color. the other option is Chaparral LW but I prefer MC to Xhp.
