Does anyone know the best way to remove an oil stain from micarta.
I somehow managed to get a 1/2 dia oil stain on the pivot end of my new PM2 Crucarta.
Thanks for any help and please refrain from giving criticism .I've already done 10 push-ups :cheap-sunglasses

I’ve found a drop of two of dawn dish soap and a toothbrush will do the trick. Alcohol may also work. Hope this helps!

Many people would just oil the entire scales to even it out. I’ve done it with mineral oil on a couple of knives. Someone will come along and post what they used to remove the oil. I remember a post from a while back with a couple of methods.

Edit: Big Tex beat everyone on the draw. :cowboy

Thanks Big_Tex,
Already had a try with Isocol-will try again.
If still no good-will try dish soap and my wife's toothbrush :-)

Thanks JRinFL.
I will do the oil solution as a final fix.

This is why I prefer G-10. I've tried both methods btw. Oil the whole thing, and clean the whole thing with alcohol. Both work. And both are only temporary fixes. Oil it, the oil will dry out. Clean it with alcohol and it will eventually pick up oils :zany

In my experience with Micarta: The handle color will even out anyway over time (and/or get a uniquely used look anyway) if you really use the knife, just from the oils of your skin and whatever else the material will pick up.

if dish soap doesn't work, maybe some baking soda left on the stain over night?

If you're really brave I bet brake cleaner would do it, but may also do other things to the micarta. There's surely some kind of degreaser that will work.

Dawn dish soap will definitely work.

Use the orange pumice hand cleaner and a tooth brush for both handle and blade. I have found that that works best for getting the gunk off after field dressing game and fish cleaning work. Phil

So good to see you posting on the forum. Now about that Spyderco collaboration you're working on............

99% iso worked to get ink off, as well as unintentionally took the oil off of my Micarta Neutron scales. I'd just rub oil over the rest of it.

If you're going to oil it, I would recommend a combo wax/oil. Most woodworking stores have a large variety of them. They typically are a combo of carnuba wax and either BLO or Tung Oil. I would caution you it changes the color. My blue Micarta still looks greenish.....

I always oil my micarta, unless it is polished smooth and shiny.

However, if Dawn will take oil off of a duck, it will take that little bit of oil off of your scales.

I'm thinking about melting some (pure) beeswax and brush it on .Pros and Cons ??
I have a couple of blocks of the stuff. Used when I make projectiles for IPSC.

I oiled my PM2 micarta scales and 3 days later, they looked like the day I received them.
Just hit them with a light coat of mineral oil and it will even out.
