Tenacious Lightweight Appreciation

#1

Post by rwk »

Hi Everyone,

I've been collecting Spydercos since the mid-90s and own so many great knives that most days it's a real challenge to figure out what I should carry.

A few months ago on a whim I decided to buy a Tenacious Lightweight Black Blade SpyderEdge. Based on the reviews, I expected it to be a good budget knife. But it turns out that it is just a great knife overall, a very Spyderco-ey Spyderco. The size is right, it has great ergonomics, and it is fun to fidget with too.

As you can see from the photo below, I've really used it. It's been through huge piles of cardboard, made numerous cuts in fiberglass insulation, through all sorts of gardening, etc. The black coating has taken a beating, but to my eye it has improved with age with hundreds of scratches making it look kind of grey in the right light. I've disassembled it multiple times to clean out the filth, and unlike a number of budget knives, didn't strip a single screw or have any trouble putting it back together.

I like it so much, I bought a plain edge for those times when a black coated SpyderEdge might not be the right choice.

Just an unbelievable value for the price. If you are a Spyderco fan and don't have one already, I would highly recommend giving it a try.

Welcome to the forum, rwk!

I have the "premium" version of the Tenacous lightweight in S35VN steel.

I agree: A great design,a great value, mine is of absolute perfect fit and finish and immediately made it among my top three EDC folders.
A lot of cutting edge in a very compact package, and the linerlock for me is the most convenient locktype to use.

Unfortunately the S35VN version does not come in full SE, just PE and comboedge.
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)
