UnAuto an Autonomy?

Out of curiousity, can you make a non-auto Autonomy 2?

Can you remove the pivot spring so that it works like a button comp lock?
(I know you would still have to depress the button to open it, unlike the standard button comp lock, but I actually like that. It keeps it closed unless the button is depressed and since theres no spydie hole you would have to use the button anyways.)
Would there be too much play in the pivot area?
Would it not work for some other reason?

Hey, VooDooChild:

Removing the kick spring would basically make the Autonomy 2 a gravity knife. As you pointed out, you'd still have to depress the button to open the blade--an action that would either require two hands or an inertial "wrist flick" opening. From a legal perspective, gravity knives and autos are the same thing, so you wouldn't gain much there.

True button locks--like old-school Masters of Defense knives and Hogue's current models--either used a chamfered button as the detent or have a separate liner-style detent. Done properly, a button lock is a great mechanism...

Stay safe,

Mike
