Anyone have s35vn Tenacious LW?

Thinking about grabbing one but saw a mixed YouTube review, just curious if it is “just” a steel upgrade of if it is higher end all around

i've seen the same feedback, but the lower grade steel is really the only thing "wrong" with the budget line anyway. my resilience is great. i handled a friend's tenacious lw (not s35vn) and it was just as good. i can't wait for the s35vn resilience to come out.

I own it. I think it's neat. It has great fit and finish. I'm waiting on a deep carry clip for it and then I will start carrying it a lot more.

The Tenacious is a very solid knife. This one has better steel, yet is still basically a lw tenacious. While a budget friendly model, they are very capable knives. I liked the Tenacious before, and like this one even more. Mine have great fit/finish, as well.

YES, I have one and it made it immediately among my top three EDC folders! If it came (almost) linerless, like the Millie, and by that would be lighter (lets say like the Manix 2 LW) it could probably even my number one (not that it is heavy now, weighs basically the same as PM2 or Stretch 2)

Mine is of absolute perfect fit and finish (even 100% perfectly centered, something I don´t even care for at all), the action is very nice, but just not free dropping (which I like) and the detent is really strong (no way the knife could open in pocket)

Only thing: It came with - I think - no oil at all at the pivot. Very easy fix of course.

Endura-length cutting edge in a very compact package (not much longer than a Delica!), still good, full four finger grip, not too thick, tall blade: I like that! :)

All in all: It is budget - FRIENDLY, but not a "budget" knife at all. HIGHLY recommended!!!

Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

That's a a great shot!

I had a hard time resisting the Tenacious when it was on sale on Lamnia the other day, AND I had a valid cupon code.
Being the rational knife buyer that I am ( :zany ) I of course managed to only buy items I already had planned to acquire.

I have one the S35vn is a super nice upgrade, it puts it in a league that lives up to the spyderco name . Solid knife now
P.S I have bought cases of the budget Byrd line as workers and guests knives
And probably will never buy any more 8cr13mov ( I despise it) !!
BD1 or better steel in the future :bug-red-white
Vg10 is about $30 more then 8cr13mov and worth every penny!!

Thanks! :smlling-eyes /

And well... the combo edge version is still on sale there ;)

Probably I´d take that one over PE if I would buy one now (don´t get me wrong, the S35VN in PE is wonderful! But I generally prefer SE and the CE version of this knife actually gives one quite some teeth due to the long overall cutting edge...)

Or... Probably I WILL buy another one anyway :winking-tongue ... hopefully in SE if they´ll offer one on the future (I mean, the 8CR version DOES come in full SE, and they obviously CAN grind teeth into S35VN..), but if not: CE!

Another nice thing with this knife: It is comparably easy to give it custom scales (even home made attempts should be possible), since the liners are "full" like in "not nested" (they ARE drilled out / skeletonized though!). So it takes "just" two flat slabs of wood or whatever, shaped into form.

I’ve never had a CE knife of any brand, but the CE Tenaciuous looks like a reasonable tradeoff.
Like you point out, @wartstein there seems to be sufficient length of both edge types.

I’d love to try a Tenacious at one point. Always found the design appealing, but I guess the 8Cr and “made in PRC” was enough to keep me look elsewhere. With the 8Cr bit solved and lots of good feedback on F&F there’s really no reason to keep avoiding it, but right now Spyderco just has too many exciting designs in the pipeline, so anything that’s not reasonably well planned and justified just has to wait. Just setting aside funds and freeing up enough space in the knife drawer for upcoming releases is already an overly dubious prioritization of time and money. Oh well.. :winking-tongue

True.. I figure it offers not that much less serrated edge than lets say a full SE Native.
Man, I should have gotten the CE one... :smirk

i've been thinking about the combo resilience for the same reason. i don't really care for combo edges usually, but a combo resilience is long enough to have a highly useful section of both in one blade.

I just picked one of these up. It is actually my first Tenacious. Are these supposed to have good action?

This one is straight-up terrible out of the box. Trying to thumb flick, it gets stopped by friction before engaging the lock. I'm away from home but I'll try adding some lube when I get a chance. I noticed an earlier comment about one being shipped dry.
