REC Shaman PVD Usage

#1

Post by DFD04 »

So…I scored a REC Shaman, and I pledged to make this one a user. I have been carrying it on the weekends and using it for the everyday EDC uses we all have. Today I had it on me and I had many boxes and pieces of synthetic material to break down. I cut apart many boxes, heavy plastic bags and other items to process for the recycling bin/trash bin. When I started cutting I noticed that the dirty/sandy boxes and other materials started to scratch the blade of the coveted REC Shaman. Oh well, I thought…it’s a user…so I kept going.

After twenty minutes of use the blade looked pretty rough. I used a bit of CLP to clean it up, and all of the scratches wiped off. The PVD coating is amazing. Every scratch left the blade, and it looks brand new still. I was super impressed with the durability of the coating, especially compared to DLC. The PVD is amazing, well done REC and Spyderco! I plan to keep on using this blade and seeing how my PVD holds up.

If y’all have one of these, don’t baby the blade! REC did great in their PVD spec and Spyderco delivered for sure.

I have the REC paramilitary 2 and have the same experience with the coating. I love this knife and hope to snag another when they release them again so I have a backup!

I ran into a snag with my REC Shaman. Literally. That blade jimp furthest from the tip snags my pockets something fierce! Some days at work, my knife is constantly in and out of the pocket so it's been relegated to afterwork carry. I've run into this on my other Shamans but they're satin and I've just ground that jimp down. I can't do that to the PVD without giving it a bald spot.
But I'm with you... Any marks so far have cleaned up without a scratch.

Good to hear. Mine is still a safe queen but maybe I’ll work up the nerve to carry it someday.

I've been curious how the pvd would hold up compared to standard dlc. Thanks!

Now we just need some other colors...
