Chinook 1 question

#1

Post by Cheddarnut »

Hey heads, I’m on the precipice of purchasing a chinook 1, it appears to have a metal lanyard tube which I don’t see on many examples online, should I be afraid?

Are you sure it's a Chinook 1 and not a Chinook 2?

Hi Paul,
Yep, it’s the original model in S60V.

Hi Paul,
Yep, it’s the original model in S60V.

But marked CPM 440V like Higher's? If that's the case, the lanyard pipe does seems a bit odd. However, that could be a mod, some folks like them for aesthetic reasons and some feel it protects the lanyard cord from the blade. Like you said, the Chinook 1 isn't a model likely to appeal to counterfeiters. While it's no guarantee, I suspect if someone was going to make a fake Chinook, they'd opt for one of the later screw construction models rather than the pinned Chinook 1. If it was something I truly wanted as a user and everything but the lanyard pipe looked correct, I'd roll the dice. If I was looking at it as a collector piece, then the distinct possibility it had been modded might make me pass.

When I did an image search for Gen1 Chinooks, I saw pictures where some had lanyard tubes and some were without. I'll have to dig mine out, its here somewhere.

I am of this opinion. I have never seen crafts for this knife.

Guess we can't rule out that it came that way from the factory. There have been many times I thought Emerson's "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds" should be one of Spyderco's mottos. ;) :D
