He was known and respected overseas too. I learned about him on my local knife forum first and then here also.
Rest in peace, Cliff.

I only knew him by reputation, but as others have said, he was one of the first to bring a stubbornly critical eye to measurement and performance. We definitely would not approach knives this way without his influence.

Rest In Peace.

Wow, that’s a surprise, and a loss for our community. I was amazed to discover that Cliff was even younger than I would have guessed. Thank you to whomever linked his obituary.

I sent knives to Cliff for testing and he was always honestly critical and approached his work from a standpoint of the scientific method. I appreciated his feed back even though I held my breath sometimes anticipating what he would report. HIs contribution to our craft will be missed. Thanks Cliff-- you made me a better knife maker.. Rest in peace Sir, Phil

Cliff is as memorable a figure as anyone I've ever known in the knife industry.

May he rest in peace.

Sad day for sure. :(

Cliff and I didn't always get along or see eye to eye, but in the end we learned from each other whether we wanted to or not.

Sad day for the knife community, he will be missed.

He contributed quite a lot over the years with his experiments and testing.

I got a little tearful reading this one.

I wish he was alive to hear this.

Very Classy Jim.

Not to be presumptuous, but I was waiting on this post. You and Cliff were two of the more active voices around here the first few years that I started lurking on this forum. I learned a lot from the discussions and testing. I hope Cliff knew that he was such an appreciated figure in this community.
