a caribbean murder mystery...
a caribbean murder mystery...
first, sorry for the clickbait thread title.
i really just want to know if we can expect to see an all black (murdered out) caribbean sometime in the future. i know it's been mentioned here multiple times for the caribbean, but i've never seen an answer or a designated thread.
chime in if you would be interested in a caribbean just the way it is, but with all black g10 and a dlc blade. i have a feeling it would sell really well. for what it's worth, i'm completely happy with my se sheepsfoot caribbean the way it is (even though i bought it with the intent to mod it), but i would've had one a lot sooner if it were available in all black also. and there's still plenty of room in my life for a second caribbean with a pe dlc leaf blade.

Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
I’m not a fan of DLC blades (the looks/never had serious corrosion issues) But I’m all for more versions of the Caribbean.
It’s a great design and the more options available the better.

I love all black knives and would love to see an all black Caribbean.

Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
I would be interested in one and I think it would sell well as it seems like a lot of people on the various social media platforms have complained about the stock "bumblebee" scales and many/most are probably not into rit dying or getting aftermarket scales.
It seems like there have been other DLC coated LC200 models - even though it's obviously not necessary for corrosion resistance - presumably because some want the anti-reflectivity or just like the look better.

If a Caribbean with a bidirectional FRN handle came out, I’d buy it. The grooved G-10 handle is okay, but I prefer the bidirectional FRN handles.

You know I really think the scales on the Caribbean are holding back it’s sales. I think if they would have done a more standard black and or yellow G10 it would have had Shaman level sale success.
Keep in mind I own a Caribbean.

Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
I just want a strong detent to hold that heavy blade in place. Black would be fine with me for the color, but Caribbean Blue would be better.

Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
Yes, I also agree an FRN Caribbean would be great as well. I think maybe Evil D has mentioned it before, but it seems like the D'Allara 3D contoured FRN style treatment would suit it very well.

Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
I've never bought a Caribbean because the bumblebee scales did not appeal to me. I would get one even without the coated blade, as long as it had either plain black or plain yellow scales.
Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
Agree with @mikey177, always wanted to get a Carib (despite reports of wonky detents in some cases) but at the end of the day the scales are just too out there for EDC purposes. If we could get an all black scale option, even with satin blades I bet it would sell.

Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
Keep the G10 but change the bumblebee combo(black and toxic green maybe). Coated blade would be cool.

Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
I'd be fine with just all black G10 but may also be interested in DLC. My issue with DLC is that I'd end up grinding it off to reshape the blade. Still I think it's a good idea and I think it would sell well. I think Doc's Caribbean blue/black idea would also likely sell better than the current yellow.

Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
for those of you that haven't tried one yet because of the color, i will say it bothers me less in person than it did in pictures. don't let the scales hold you back from trying a great knife. it's perfectly fine as an edc and people around me that don't care about knives couldn't care less about the color. i'm not sure they even notice.
for those that want a different color than yellow, yellow was chosen for salt models because it is the last color you lose in low light conditions under water. the caribbean blue is a nice color, but it wouldn't be as visible under water and might defeat the purpose of having the secondary color in the first place. i'm not saying i'm against it... i'm just trying to say there's a reason they went with yellow and it makes sense.
for the people worried about the detent, i don't really get it. it has a light detent, but it's part of the really nice, smooth action from taichung. i've carried the knife in my pocket and in my waistband a lot, even for activities like swimming and running. i've never had any issue with the knife falling open. i really think people make a bigger deal out of this than it is.
a lot of people have noted over the years that the caribbean is unapologetically purpose built for a specific niche market. that is definitely the case, but other salt models are available in all black also and are very popular. if it got a secondary treatment, i think it would pull in a lot more sales. it really is a fantastic knife. the caribbean and i had a rough start, but i think it's replaced the manix as my favorite model.

Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
I can say that I am a huge Caribbean fan and carrying mine at work, several people have not been fans of the stock handles/scales. Personally I like them, they are unique but I think an all black version would definitely appeal more to the masses and introduce them to one of my all-time favorite Spydies.
Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
Am I the only person who likes the black and yellow? (No, I'm not a Pittsburgh fan)
Funny, because a lot of knives sell on color alone, but this one, people want black

Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
i hated the way they looked in pictures, but i wanted to try the knife despite the way it looks. in person, the design is so good that i stopped caring about the scale color and even started liking it the way it is. i just also want a black version.

Im with you bro, it looks great in hand, its unique and sort of has retro vibe.
Sals best work imo.

Not all the way black but you get the idea.
Add DLC to that and it's a winner.

Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
I actually like the yellow. It looks funky at first, but for outdoor knives, especially around water, I really prefer bright colors to help me not lose them (or to find them again after I drop them).
Nothing against DLC for folks that like it though. And I agree that it would be a big seller.

Re: a caribbean murder mystery...
All yellow would be okay, too. Black and yellow stripes are not appealing to me. Still, there is that detent issue, even if the color was fixed.
