Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
I don't have any Mules because the fixed blade laws in CA are stupid. I rarely get to carry my Jumpmaster, or even my ARK. I am very tempted by this one though.

Really uncertain about this’s one. Might just get me another K294 and/or AEB-L. Can’t really think of a way I’d use the ceramic knife outside of a kitchen setting. Extremely uncertain and open to suggestions. FOMO really sucks though.

Hi Vandyman,
Getting an opportunity to work with a new material in a new format. That's the purpose of the Mule Teams in general and this one in particular. With effective sharpening, we can raise the bar.

Problem solved I’m going to try and get one when they drop. Thank you Sal for the reminder of the purpose of the mule team, I needed that.

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
I noticed that all the sheaths for the HIC mule are sold out. Will the sheaths be restocked? I own a bunch of the leather sheaths and they don’t seem like the best option for this new mule. I want to max protect the HIC mule and get the boltaron sheath for it.

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
I may be wrong, but maybe they just have not been put up for sale yet. Best call the factory. Maybe flipping the sheaths will be where the real money is

Im guessing they made a lot of these. I was allowed to put 3000 in my cart. It was only $450,000.

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
Maybe a silly question, but will the black color go throughout the blade or is just the outer part that is black? If grinding on the spine while fitting handles changes the color it might look odd...

As far as I understood, it's a injection molding process therefore color should be solid throughout the entirety of the blade.legOFwhat? wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 11:53 amMaybe a silly question, but will the black color go throughout the blade or is just the outer part that is black? I could be wrong though. There's more knowledgeable people here that may shed some light on the matter.legOFwhat? wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 12:10 pmThanks, that's good to hear.vanka wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 12:09 pmAs far as I understood, it's a injection molding process therefore color should be solid throughout the entirety of the blade.legOFwhat? wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 11:53 amMaybe a silly question, but will the black color go throughout the blade or is just the outer part that is black? But did you hit the UPDATE QUANTITIES button, for the website to adjust to the actual number available? Doesn't sound like.crazywednesday wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 10:17 amIm guessing they made a lot of these. I was allowed to put 3000 in my cart. It was only $450,000.

This paper claims to have created a deformable ceramic similar to metal:

Maybe this will be the mule in 2040.

The color definitely goes all the way through. I’ve drilled two holes in mine and can say this with 100% certainty.legOFwhat? wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 11:53 amMaybe a silly question, but will the black color go throughout the blade or is just the outer part that is black? Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
This stuff is far from a new technology ladies and gentlemen.. it's sintering zirconia and alumina essentially like PM steel. It's an oxide ceramic. Mostly for kitchen knives, which most people who have experience in kitchens tell me they prefer high alloy steel due to chipping. I do not have any experience in a kitchen whatsoever. I'm sure the Internet has enough information on ZTA ceramics and this I believe, is a modification of that somehow.

Type of material yes. Same no, different companies, they're in a class called zirconia toughened alumina. Most all work though that chemical process that I don't know myself!.Fireman wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 2:56 amhttps://www.bladehq.com/item--Benchmark ... ack--39848
Is this the same ceramic material?

How we class say.. stainless steel. Or duplex ferritic and austenitic grades. That's the only similarly to my knowledge but I am far from an expert on this.

I had a funny thought about making a cork handle so it floats. Could be a good salt water fixed fish knife.
