If I were in the market for a Para 2 I could see myself being happy with either. The cruwear Paras really are put together very well....but I think S90V would make a better EDC steel for me.

There's a lot of different coatings out there. A lot of cheaper fixed blades used those thick, textured baked on coatings, and a lot of low end folders use painted on coatings. That will show wear after one or two hard use sessions.

DLC on the other hand can stay looking good for years and years.

Except for looks, is there any advantage to a DLC on a stainless blade?

IME it increases corrosion resistance. I can do this in a day with uncoated 8Cr, but my coated Resilience (lower end coating than DLC too) never rusts.

That DLC Para 2 above was carried in hot, humid, sweaty conditions for five years. The liners, stop pin etc. were coated in rust. The blade was pristine.

Same story with my first run Manix XL vs DLC S30V XL. The former got some spotting on the blade at times, the latter never did.

The S90V vs S110V makes it even harder. I have seen the stock photos of the blue and it looks a bit purple and only okay. But I have also seen some personal pictures and it looks more like a medium denim blue and looks really good.

I find a lot about S110V being prone to chips even with normal use. The S90V is a little tougher which might make a difference.

I am betting that similar to the Purple Cruwear Exclusive that this one will have all blacked out hardware. First run did not, but the 2nd run did. Maybe DLTJordan could chime in. When the 2nd run was announced, they used old photos of uncoated spacers and lock bar, but later corrected it to match the change in the 2nd run.

Good point. Blacked out liners at a lesser price? Those who missed out on the first run ought to get one of these. Mine is one of the few PM2s that I kept in my collection.

I am on the fence on this one. Would you get this or the PM2 Cruwear brown micarta one? I am not a fan of DLC, epically on a stainless blade but S90V is a better steel for a EDC folding knife.

What is everyone's thoughts? Am I the only one comparing the two? I am hoping for black liners would help the knife look better.

Definitely this over the Cruwear. While I love Cruwear, the full liners on that limit scale customization, plus S90V rocks. There used to be a time when Spyderco S90V's were rare and highly sought after in the secondary market; I'm glad that more exclusives now are made in the steel.

I think Blurple is an accurate description. A big thing that I believe contributes to this is that it is a slightly translucent color. In certain light from certain angles it looks dark blue, and in other light it looks purple. Depends on how much it is backlit.

I was on the fence about the Teal s90v before seeing this. Now off the fence as I like this combo much better. Unfortunately a slew of exclusives have been released recently.

Interestingly, for those who appreciate the distinction, this is a DLT Exclusive, not a JB Outman exclusive like the first one in March 2021.

As was explained to me, JB allowed the combination to be commissioned independently by DLT. I’m guessing that the commissioning negotiation with Spyderco or not having to pay another layer of markup from JB is probably why these are a tad less expensive than the original release. I’m glad for it either way.

Meh, maybe if that turns off some of the folks who care about such things, I'll have an opportunity to actually snag one. Any word on whether this was a big order, or are things going to be tight?
