I can't believe how functional and comfortable these ProTrek are. I think they may have cured me from my watch malediction. On this PRW-1500T-7VER you have moon phase, barometric trend and tide graph all on the home screen, love it!

ABC sensor Pro Trek is the watch that got me into watches. My Garmin has more features but the Pro Trek is solar powered and bomb proof - still has a place in my collection.

So you're saying there's levels beyond this 7th heaven goldilocks zone? Please elaborate if you don't mind vivi.

Haha, depends on your priorities.

I picked up a Garmin Forerunner 945 so I didn't have to bring my phone to listen to music on runs, and to track various stats. It shows me my pace, overlays my running and cycling routes over a map after tracking them with GPS, has a full GPS map I can browse without my phone, has a compass, altimeter, calendar, to-do list, tracks my heart rate and estimated caloric expenses, I can track my progress and compare past runs / bike rides to new ones, etc. I can also use it to pay for gas and other purchases, but I disabled that feature out of privacy concerns.

Downsides compared to an ABC Casio is I need to charge it every two weeks and it was kind of pricey. But I love the size, how light it is, and the rubber straps.

I'll always like the looks of a nice field watch, and Casios will always have a special place in my collection, but I don't see anything on the market that beats the Forerunner for me in terms of pure functionality.

Going from top to bottom, left to right, here's what my Forerunner shows at a glance:

- battery level
- moon phase
- next sunrise or sunset time
- date
- heartrate
- time
- step tracker
- calories expended
- current elevation
- the weather

I'm so used to checking my wrist for the weather, date, elevation etc., it feels weird when I wear a watch without those features.

Not wearing it yet, because I just ordered it, but soon I'll be posting a pic of my first Laco pilot watch.

My trusty Seiko Flightmaster. Purchased new in June of ‘94.
Still running great, not bad for a 28 year old watch!
