Lc200N PM2 and Para 3

#1

Post by Brown_Recluse »

I apologize if this topic has been covered, I've been out of the Spyderco loop for a little while but I'm back and I plan on making up for lost time. Anyway, a while back I heard rumblings of a possible PM2 and maybe even a Para 3 with Lc200N as the blade steel.

IMO this would be the ultimate combo of functionality, toughness and rust resistance. Although the liners would probably need to be Lc200N as well for it to be truly rust proof which would probably make it too expensive for a production model. But i digress, has anyone heard whether this is going to be a thing or not? I'd LOVE a salt PM2 and Para 3 with yellow scales. the only thing that could be better is a CPM S90V/Lc200N laminate blade with CPM S90V being the edge steal of course. Ok, now I'm just dreaming and this has gone way longer than I intended.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any answers. :spyder:

I think this would be a good combination. I've suggested this before- the most popular models should have their standard version in S30V/SPY27, and upgraded models in S110V, LC200N and some tool steel such as 4V/REX45/K390.

i'd be all over a para 3 salt if it was lined g10 and the clip and lanyard hole were positioned like the lw version.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

It's certainly been covered. But not enough.

I'd snatch up an lc200n para 3 in g10 or frn in an instant. As for pm2, I think the caribbean sorta covers that size range, but I suppose if the para 3 got a salt (at least the g10 model) then the pm2 would likely follow.

Also for a laminate blade there's not really any reason to use a proper knife steel in the non-edge steels. Some less expensive marine grade-ish stainless is fine.

this is my thought exactly.

I concur with bdblue in that it would be cool if each of the most popular Spyderco models (PM2, Para 3, Delica, etc) had maybe even 3 or 4 production configurations. I realize that this would be a logistical nightmare but one can dream right? Although, if it was up to me it'd be S35VN/G10 (DLC or non-DLC) as the base model, S90V as the higher end stainless model with the tougher blade steel and maybe even with carbon fiber scales. Then a more "hard worker" knife with G10 as the scales and Maxemet, 4V or M4 as the blade steel that can cut and cut and take it all. Then the exact opposite, a rust proof model that you can leave in a tackle box or wherever. I'd buy all 4 in half of a heartbeat, as long as the funds are in the bank :p .

I completely understand your point and I agree, that would be the best way to go to keep costs down but this is more of a blade steel pipe dream for me. In a land where expense doesn't matter. If I could commission Spyderco to make a custom to my exact specifications type of thing.

I'm getting off of the point now. I would love to see an Lc200N Para 3 lightweight but I'd personally prefer a rust proof, G10 PM2 and Para 3. Shoot even a Para 3 with Lc200N and titanium scales (look out bank account) would be pretty sweet. Pretty sweet indeed... :spyder:

I’m not opposed to a Para 3 Salt, but I think I’ve rather have a Mini Caribbean.

That's cool though! Personally, I've even never even seen a Caribbean IRL much less held or used one. I'm just a PM2/Para 3 fanboy :D . But thats a personality trait of mine, when I find something that I like and that works for me I tend to scarf up and desire as many variations as I can without giving much else a thought.

It's a good trait for collecting things, not very useful in other aspects of life though lol. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It is what it is.

Salt me a PM2 and call it what ever you like, but I vote for seafarer. I would have suggested mariner, but that was already used.

I would like it in dark navy, just because that is my favourite colour. If not, something that can still be rit dyed dark navy.

Toxic green G10 could be fun. Might be tempted not to rit it right away...

Me too.
Didn't see the green in person but I am not a few of. A salt knife should be in yellow period.
At least a sprint run.
If not yellow at least a black one.

My Rex45 and k390 looks new.
So rust is not an issue here.
But having the option or a knife for hiking would be great.

Yeah I beg for a pm2 in LC200N about once every 6 months, lol. I think the trouble is making the compression lock, liners, and all that completely corrosion free as well. But man...a PM2 LC200N in like seafoam green or something...pleaaase

Absolutely for that seafoam green idea. And the caribbean has liners made of lc200n, and that knife preforms wonderfully.

Plus if it’s the para 3 lw all it would be is that inch and a bit of lockbar. They could also make the liners out of a marine stainless and coat them.

I would be in for a regular (i.e. not lightweight) Para 3 Salt. If they can throw in the wire clip of the lightweight, that would be gravy, though.
