Sage 5 / LW5 Rex45 ?????????????

Post by cycleguy »

I'd really like to see this become a reality ... I suspect it would be a sprint and I'd be interested in one in G10 and another in FRN. Can they do burnt orange carbon fiber?

I’m not super interested in the sage, but that may just change if it was available in Rex 45.

I'm definitely hoping the sage lw will get some steel and color options. Rex45 would be a great one.

I'm all in even though the burnt orange isn't my favorite; but I've recently figured out how do the rit dye thing. Really like the steel in my para 3.

Hi CG,

It's a US steel so it's possible, but there are a lot of designs ahead of it.

I didn't vote. I'd like to see a Sage 5 LW in a different steel and I like REX45 but I definitely don't need any more burnt orange knives. It's not my favorite color and I have my fair share of it already. So I'd likely pass on any more of it. I'd be perfectly happy with SPY27 and Cobalt Blue though.

Yes.

When it comes to small comp. lock knives, imho the Sage 5 LW is an almost perfectly and sensibly designed model and should generally become an alternative and as such get about as much variants as the Para 3 LW for people who are not into the latter.

And the Sage 5 LW really deserves a great steel like REX 45 (and I happen to like burnt orange very much... )
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I found the Para 3 and Sage 5 to be pretty comparable knives when I had both, which made it easy for me to eventually get rid of my Sage 5 a few years ago. Though I do think that the Sage 5 is a bit more comfortable in hand. It would take the Sage to come in some kind of steel I haven't tried before, but I also do think it would be a great knife for someone to try some Rex45 if they haven't had the chance to get any Rex yet.

It's definitely time the Sage 5 LW got a sprint run. I'd pick up one instantly in any high-carbide steel.

I really like the idea and I'm in for one fore sure, but my grail EDC is still a Sage3 with a tool steel like 4V, Rex45, or K390, given there was a CF & G10 version of the Sage3, perhaps a PE CF version & a SE G10 version...? :D ;) :)

The Sage series is a truly great do-it-all EDC, in whatever flavor you choose. The steel options were always limited to S30v, but with the Maxamet Sage1 reveal, possibilities beyond the FRN LW became real. I love the Sage5 LW, but love to think that the next "steel run" Sage would be a Sage2, to follow up the Sage1 Maxamet. REX45 or M4 sounds perfect to me!
