What is your favorite scale color between Burnt Orange or Blurple?

Post by Oloung1 »

Taking out the steel associated with the scale color, the model of the knife and the production vs sprint/exclusive run variables, would you rather have your knife scale color simply in Burnt Orange or Blurple? You can choose only one but can change your choice.

The poll selections are not about:
  • steels
  • models
  • production vs sprint/exclusive runs
There are other iconic spyderco scale colors that I left out of this poll. I currently do not own Burnt Orange nor Blurple scales.

Scale pictures welcome, even if they are not burnt orange or blurple Image

Blurple all the way. Not only does it look better in my opinion, it also doesn't show dirt or grime as quickly as burnt orange.

You had a tough time with cleaning your scales on your Rex45 Military didn't you? I find using a Magic Eraser works the best on cleaning G10 scales of any color. I've tried 3 different products/methods so far, but none is faster or less messy than using the Magic Eraser.

Burnt orange for me, no doubt. One of my favorite scale colors nowadays, while blurple is pretty low down on my list.
Though I have to admit: Can't really recall if I liked burnt orange right from the start or if it perhaps grew on me.

That being said: Generally scale color is really not important to me.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Yeah I did. And I made the mistake of boiling the scales in water to try to loosen up the embedded grime. All that did was give it a washed-out look, like old vomit.
I have tried using mineral oil to revitalize the scales but it didn't work. I've yet to try JD's Ballistol but I'd like to sometime.

I didn't think I was the kind of guy who cared that much about handle color, but apparently I am.

Burnt orange :D all the orangey goodness without being too yellowish bright. Also helps that my other job is in the disaster and emergency response spectrum. :)

I voted orange. Only 11 votes so far but it looks closer than I would have expected. Like EvilD said in the other thread, it’s easy to assume that just because you have a strong preference between the two then most others will share it. I’m interested to see where the numbers end up. Even though I’m aware of my bias, I still expect orange to pull away on this one.

When my son was a baby we had a diaper incident that was exactly the same color as that burnt orange. I'm not even joking. It was all the way up his back and down his thighs. I guess being a dad has ruined colors like that for me.

Blurple, no contest. (I have burnt orange in FRN, FRCP, & G10 if it matters any)

Would be interesting to know to what degree people like or dislike the color. For me, I like blurple and it is high on my list of being a desirable color. I've never liked or been attracted to burnt orange - hap40 and rex45 got me past that so I have warmed up to it some.

I prefer Burnt Orange. It's slightly less ambiguous than Blurple.

I don't have any blurple, so I haven't seen it in person. But I generally like earthy tones better, so I voted burnt orange. With that said, I fully support a wide range of color options. ;)

I am not really a fan of either color but I own one of both for the steel.

I prefer the steels offered in burnt orange, but the color not so much. For reference, I’m and Auburn Man living in Vols country :)

Blue is my favorite color, and it seems I’m starting a pseudo-collection of blue Spyderco’s, so Blurple is definitely my preference.

I like the nice, subtle, fall feel of the burnt orange. Could be that I love fall and those kind of colors just appeal to me. The orange from the CS exclusives is too bright and obnoxious for my liking, burnt orange is a pleasant color.
