Does anybody know what's going on with the power lock? I can only think of two knives that have used it (though I'm probably wrong). I'm a fan of back locks, so I thought it would be neat to check one out. The Chinook 4 isn't really my cup of tea. I have not seen/heard much about this lock so I thought I would ask the hive mind.

It’s a similar concept to the Tri-Ad lock isn’t it? With an extra contact point for the blade tang? I think It’s slightly overkill though tbh. Maybe for an outdoorsy type knife it would be nice.

IIRC Sal said it was invented by someone at G Sakai and they may have IP rights to it. Not sure.

I am curious too and have considered the Chinook 4 also, but it's not my package.

I would like to test the lock on a more approachable model outside of the Tatanka or Chinook 4.

I'm sure there's a function vs cost factor that has to balance out, especially when competing with their back lock since the user operation is so similar. I have no doubt they can already make their regular back lock strong enough that other parts of the knife would fail before the lock. If anything I would like to see them incorporate a stop pin in the liners like the Chaparral uses.

Thanks for the photo. That helps me understand what's going on with the lock.

Chinook 4 is one heck of a knife, but the blade shape is a not really my thing.
I would love to see a power lock, neutral handle, and a ,,normal,, blade shape.
But I guess the powerlock is an answer to a problem that is not ready a problem. Additional loading point as in Chaparral (stop pin) is good enough for me.

The power lock is quite strong. I think there was a Cold Steel video testing the lock on the Tatanka against their Voyager XL or something. It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, both blades broke before either lock failed. Impressive engineering by both companies.

I dont know if the seki line needs the upgrade, but it would be pretty cool to see the backlocks upgraded.

Upgrade either using the power lock or adding a stop pin, or reengineering to match golden models.

Would the power lock add significant cost to a model currently using a back lock?

The dragonfly and delica are two of my favourites and I have had 10+ of both. From my experience, all of them develop vertical play / lock rock over time. Would be a nice bonus (but not a necessity) if the locks were upgraded.

I too like to check out new locking systems when they hit the market. I've especially liked Spyderco's Ball Bearing lock>> the one on the Dodo models has always been one of my favorites. Also I love one of the very first Spyderco compression locks>> I'm speaking of the one used on the older GUNTING model.

But to me I don't really make such a big deal about locking systems overall on Spyderco folders because I've never had one fail on me or malfunction in any way. Even with some of their more simple locks like the "liner lock" for instance >> I've never ever had even the liner lock or any of their simple locking systems fail on me not even once. And I've used several of my Spyders pretty rough at times.

But again I would like to try out one of these "Power Locks".

This or the Military, maybe called the Military 3, since the Military 2 was slotted to be a comp lock.

My first thought was Manix, but maybe a Manix XLPL (for power lock) would be best?

Sorry for the naive question but I am not familiar with this type of lock. I understand that this is a variation of the lockback. Is that right? Which advantantages offers (compared to a lockback)?
