Hey everybody.
I'm curious to hear some opinions please.
Do you lube your Salt knives pivots and what lube do you use ?

All of my Salts were fairly rigid before they broke in to perfection. I am hesitant to lube anything on a knife until the metal to metal mating surfaces have worn naturally. Once that occurs, I disassemble if needed, flush out any debris left and use a small amount of a very light lube that leaves a trace of teflon behind. That has always worked well for me. I've never lubed any of my knives. I don't really worry too much about action or flick-ability though.

I use reel oil on any knife that i oil. I don't know the brand off of the top of my head. It was cheap off of Amazon though.

I usually oil them with whatever oil I have around. Can't really hurt them.

I have read that many people think it isn't necessary, and that the FRN is sort of "self lubricating". Still, I find them smoother with a bit of occasional oil, especially after rinsing them out. I use Ballistol. It works great, and keeps them food safe.

i've dropped some reel oil in my pac salt once or twice, but i don't think it's necessary at all. the blade is riding on the pivot and between plastic scales, so there's not really a need to oil it. i've had my pivot full of both fine and gritty sand and the knife still works just fine. there's something wonderful about the simplicity of it all.

I think it depends on what you're doing with it. If I know i'm going to be on a boat or in the water with the knife then I usually don't bother oiling because its just going to come off. Maybe if i'm around the house, but most of the time the only oil is the remainder after a cleaning and disassembly

I don’t really lube my Salts. The only time the action has ever felt a bit less smooth (other than some grit) is after I’ve had one immersed in the water for a long time; the FRN seems like it temporarily swells a bit from submersion in water, so the action feels less sharp/less smooth for a while. Then after the moisture dries out, everything’s fine again. I don’t know if anybody else has ever experienced that?

On rare occasions, I might apply a tiny amount (one drop) of Tuf-Glide, not on the pivot, but on the part of the blade tang that’s exposed when the blade is closed; the part that rubs against the backspring. I work it in by opening and closing the blade a few times, and that’s it. But I hardly ever do that.

I drop a little KPL in if I’m doing a full disassembly and cleaning, but I really doubt it’s necessary. Just the same thing I would do to any other knife.

I use Phil Wood bearing grease in all my pivots, more so for better pivot action but I've also found that it creates a nice physical barrier that blocks crud from getting into your pivot.

Like many, I never use lubricant on my Salt knives. They get rinsed under the faucet or in the pool then left to dry.

Frog Lube is slick, corrosion-resistant, and food-safe. I use it on my knives and firearms.

Frog lube would be great too. As you said, also food safe, like Ballistol.

+1 for ballistol. I use that stuff for everything, like I said earlier I don’t really live my salt knives, maybe a drop of ATF or motor oil but if I plan ahead ballistol is where it’s at.
