VG-10?

Can someone explain the Sal logo for me? I dont see it on all the knifes. Just wondered why it's not on all? Or is it and you just dont see it?

It's not on all the knives because it was a fairly recent change. All of the collaboration knives, made in Taiwan, had the designer's logo, but (from memory) I believe Sal didn't like to put his own mark on his blades, so most or all didn't have one. I think last year Spyderco started putting Sal's mark on all the blades he designs/designed.

I've tried nearly every steel Spyderco has used and VG10 remains one of my favorites.

It's one of the few stainless steels I'm happy to use in either folding or fixed blade knives. Good toughness. Very corrosion resistant. As others mentioned, its one of the easiest steels to sharpen.

Just a great steel that isn't really lacking in any one area.

I've always liked VG-10 better than it's American counterpart S30V. And that says a lot coming from a guy who is a fan of Crucible's great steels. I have far more VG-10 models than I do of those made with S30V>> and for good reason.

I don't look for VG-10 to be replaced any time soon. But whatever eventually does replace it in due time I'm sure will be a great Japan made blade steel.

I’ve probably already posted this, but I consider VG-10 to be one of the best all-around blade steels out there. I’ve liked it since it started being used on Spyderco’s folders way back, and I’ll be happy if it always remains in Spyderco’s steel arsenal.

Then again, I also like Victorinox’s blade steel in their SAKs and kitchen knives

I own knives in ‘super’ steels, but I still favor simple steels that have worked very well for me. I can be picky, but conversely, it doesn’t always take much to please me. But it has to be good.

Spyderco doesn't offer any models in steel that doesn't perform well. There are definitely newer steels that can hold an edge longer, but vg10 is one of spyderco's default choices for a reason. It won't let you down, especially compared with super low budget steels.

I keep a ceramic rod in my kitchen and that's enough to keep my Victorinox kitchen knives hair popping sharp. They're so easy to keep very sharp.

This is true. When my Vic kitchen knives start losing their bite, it literally takes seconds for me to restore their edges, and they remain sharp for a good while (for my uses). There’s a lot to be said for good, simple steels that just work.

here's the question for everyone that loves (or loved) vg10 in this thread... if vg10 were only $10 cheaper than s30v or 20cv in the same knife model, would you still choose it?

Same model. No color choice for $10 more I would opt for S30V and 20CV. And I like VG-10.

I haven't had 20cv, but in my uses, I have no preference between VG-10 and S30v.

Yeah, I was including both edge types, which isn't fair, but I've never had SE S30v.

Yup, I’d get the vg10 knife and some tacos, or a cheeseburger with the extra money.

I generally do not buy VG-10. If a super special knife only came in VG-10, I’d consider it. The high performance Delica comes to mind. I’ll probably buy that. I can’t think of any other model I’d buy in VG-10. Maybe I should try VG-10 again, but it has no appeal for me.

We all know this, but it is so much more than just the steel. I cut some boxes with several knives recently, just to compare, and the Delica Wharncliffe VG-10, with thin stock and shallow serrations, was the best.
