Had my son's birthday party at a local amusement park the sunday before last ,I knew that they had checks at the entrance so I left all the hardware in the truck except a leatherman micra on my key chain. The kid (probably early twenties) said that I had to give it up (not to be returned) or take it back to my car. No problem untill later when I asked a gentleman in the park how he got in with the spyderco military clliped to his pocket "Wow" he said" I didn't give it a thought and I have been in and out of the park several times" now here is the good part, he then says , and I had noticed" must be the leg it trips them every time", he had a metal prostheses and was wearing shorts. We both. think that once the checker saw it he just didn't bother to look any farther. Some system eh? proof positive that some of the personal are not properly trained at all . Oh well I found the whole thing rather interesting you don't have to have much of an imagination to come up with some potentialy bad situations If we the people are going to be subject to this increased security I just wish they would get it right, we all know a knife cliped to one's pocket should not have been missed with the naked eye and with a metal prostheses further care should .have been excersized, well enough, what do you think? stay safe, mjmcdowell

You bring up some good points that I'd like to respond to:
1. A knife clipped to one's pocket is rarely, if ever, noticed by the lay folk. Most of them assume it's a beeper. I've carried several knives this way for years, and have NEVER had one person look twice or make any comment about it.

2. I work in a prison for a living, and I've made this observation: "Security is inconvenient, and people don't like to be inconvenienced". Actually, the quote itself is from Richard Marcinko, but it's tried and true. **** true.

Jim, yes I agree with you as I too have carried a folding knife clipped to my right front pocket for many years (all stainless stamped out clip spyderco standard was the first of many folders with clips) and only once did some one ask me about what is that clipped to your pocket, it was a good friend so my response that it was a folding knife did not surprise her. Now on the other hand when someone who is supposed to be trained as a screener, guard or whatever at a check point misses a clipped on folder it would be my hunch that that person was not trained very well, don't you think? As for being inconvencenced by proper security measures I would not feel that at all, but I would stress the word "proper" Even so all of us are human and prone to making mistakes, training, again "proper" training lessens the chance of mistakes. stay safe mjmcdowell

Frankly, I'd rather have shoddy, or extremely limited security screening at theme parks unless there is an ongoing gang problem.

Post 9/11 rules prohibiting knives and scissors are asinine unless you think you can hijack a roller coaster.

I never had a single question about Spydercos being in my pocket until I tied a lanyard on my Delica. I got asked "what's hanging out of your pocket" three times in one day. I bit my tongue to keep from saying "the same thing that's been there for the last year that you never noticed." <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I went to the TX Ranger baseball game earlier this month. They were more concerned about my 16 yr old daughters purse than looking to see that I had my Alan Elishewitz Stryker and my Brad Duncan Whiplash in my pockets. Our society is dealing with P.C run amok. rr

I just got back from Disneyworld and they had no metal detectors. All that they did was to make a cursory check of any bag or pack that you were carrying.I could have smuggled in an arsenal!I think that all of this "feel good" security has gone too far.Either they should do it right or forget it.
