Is that price in line with what people are seeing at other dealers?

Seems a bit high.

Little spendy compared to some of the other retailers prices when they have/had them in stock.

Has anybody taken apart your knife? It was a royal pain in the rear to put back together; I wouldn’t recommend it. There were no washers. Just curious if anybody has seen the same thing.
No washers? Seriously?

Plot thickens..

Never had one, so I can't say for sure. Given the construction of the new sprint, I'm guessing this is normal. I don't think the knife would go back together if you added washers. I was just surprised, that's all.

Caly 3.5 has no washers from the same maker. Very smooth and works great for what it's worth

Couldn't a guy add his own washers to suit himself? Because if mine doesn't have any I'll probably install some.

However I would be curious as to why they did not install any???

Plenty SS models were smooth without washers. I don't think Police SS ever had washers.

That's a good point. I don't think any of the older Rookie models ( a smaller Police model) had any either now that I think of it. However most of the stainless Spyderco models I've owned and used had pinned construction. And I'm sure there are more Spyderco models that did not have washers for whatever reason.

But I am curious as to why such a high end model like that did not have them installed at the factory???

I would have assumed no washers. It was one of the unique things from this maker for decades.

No washers? That’s quite a surprise.

I don’t think there is a definitive survey of which Spydies do and don’t have washers, but I have concluded over the years that only moldable scales can mimic—with a raised surface—what a washer might otherwise offer. So, look for washers under SS, Ti, CF, G10, micarta, but don’t expect them under FRN or FCRP.

If I’m wrong, I’d be happy to know it.

EDIT TO ADD: Blerv and JamesY, below, may be onto something.

if it operates smoothly without them, why would you want to add washers?

Ah, Moki. I think you’re onto something here, Blerv. I don’t have many Mokis—only micarta Calypso, VG10 Ayoob sprint, SB Caly 3.5, Kiwi4—but each sure is smooth.

Everything is so tight. There is zero room. That’s why I had such a hard time putting it back together. I just don’t see how you could add washers. It is smooth, but I could see how it seemed like I was complaining. I just wasn’t aware of washer-less Spydercos.

AFAIK, most Spydercos didn't have washers until the D4 and E4, with their linered FRN. Prior to that, the lightweights were pinned together, and did not have washers. And of course, the SS versions never had washers.

Let’s try not to shut another Spyderco fan down. The complaints (hole finish and serrations) are valid even if you don’t share them. Spyderco has always shown they are open to comments, good or bad.
Hi Jim,

Amen!

Hey JD,

I guess I sorta lied. This maker just made their first knife with LC200N. The Subway Bowie. Apology. They do not have access to H2

On the washers, this particular maker does not use washers. They feel that it is better quality to polish the tang and liner so smooth that no washers are necessary. At one time, they were considered the best maker in the world, and then "The Rains came". I'll run the story down a bit later. I'm travelling.

Because Sal said that there was not going to be any more C-60 Ayoob models made with CRUWEAR>> and they will disappear fast I'm sure.
`
JD, did Sal ever say, or hint, that C-60 Ayoobs might be made in a steel other than CruWear? I ask because there are several steels I'd much rather wait for.

that's interesting. i wonder why it's not done more. i will say, in examining the knife, i noticed the way the liners are milled and polished. it's quite is impressive. it's not like any other spyderco i've owned yet. i really like everything about the knife except the one hiccup. it's so good otherwise. very smooth and solid. a se salt model that i could put in my waistband would really be the only thing i could hope for to make the model better for me. thanks for listening and being willing to make this run happen.
