I will do a poll for the blade shape.

I will also do scales.

I need suggestions for handles that aren't expensive.
Nothing crazy expensive please.

FRN (please don't vote for this) or G10. Or slightly more expensive: laminated carbon fiber. Everything above this selection most likely blows costs out of proportion.

Right guys?

Where would steel scales be, costwise?

If you follow this link https://damasteel.se/patterns/?filter=flat-bars and click on the patterns you can see how the different patterns look on finished blades

Before we do a poll on the pattern: does anyone know if they all cost the same in purchasing?

Hakkapella is crazy beautiful. Heck, all of them are.

Given the internet grief about pocket clips that are deemed sub-par, I can just imagine the whinging if Damasteel were paired with frn or plain peel-ply.
I am not a fan of listening to whinging, but I am very interested in productive input.

So what is your suggestion?
Polished Ivory G10 would be my preference, contoured ideally, but I’m sure whatever Sal decides will give the most realistic balance of quality with cost and likely demand.

The steel pattern is difficult to judge without scale (edit: which I’ve just seen on the link)

A quick check shows them all in the same price range (retail), but there may be other factors I'm not aware of.

So I made a poll for the blade shape here:-

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=87014

So this poll is for the blade shape of THIS UKPK ONLY. I am not asking what your general preference for UKPK's is, but what you would prefer on the DAMASTEEL UKPK BLADE ONLY.

The choices are fairly self explanatory.
Obviously your first choice is important, but I want to know is you would still buy it if it wasn't the blade shape you wanted.

PLEASE KEEP THE CHATTER THAT POLL THREAD FOR THAT SINGLE TOPIC ONLY.
THERE WILL BE A POLL NEXT WEEK WHEN WE HAVE COLLATED UP TO 10 CHOICES FOR THE HANDLE.

You have 7 days to vote from the 4th July.
THIS KNIFE IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!! LET''S MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!

Hi bbturbodad.

Super-interesting link there; some of those deigns are amazing.

I think the type of damasteel is something Sal is choosing. He kind of alluded to it previously, and actually, Sal is the Daddy of all this, and should have plenty of artistic range over this. I feel that the knife will have some of his soul if he presides over this aspect.

Obviously he has final say in all of it, including if this happens at all, but I would like him to make the choice.

I hope this is OK with you, and everyone else here.

OK, never mind that. I was wrong.

Personally I like Rose and Hakkapella

The ivory G10 is definitely my favourite of the suggestions so far.

Sal, would you disclose too much if you'd say whether or not the patterns have different costs?

I think Rose is probably my least favorite Damasteel pattern. I picked up a Rike Hummingbird (which features Rose Damasteel) for my wife and I found the pattern to be pretty lackluster in person. Different strokes for different folks I guess! I would very likely purchase the knife in any of the patterns (or blade shapes for that matter).

Image

Also keep in mind that the patterns can look quite different when they are ground. For instance, both this ring and blade are Super Dense Twist Damasteel ( an "X" appears when you grind Super Dense Twist).

Image

As far as personal preference goes, I really like Odin Heim, Sparse Twist, Super Dense Twist, Bifrost, Bjorkman's Twist, Dense Twist, Heimskringla, and Vinland (no particular order).

I have always loved Boomerang Damascus, it’s not Damasteel though.
