I would love to see a Shaman S110V version because of the edge retention of and the fact it's a stainless steel so rust won't be a factor.

Do you have a time frame on when we might see one come out.

Hi Wade,

We try to avoid committing to delivery dates as they often change for one reason or another. I can tell you it's not on my mfg schedule that I got this week, which goes to next March.

I was thinking the exact same thing, and with that thick handle, that would be a lot of g10!

Can say what steels you will be releasing the Shaman in this year,I'd really like to buy one but I hate S30V I steels that are S90V and higher.

Hi Wade,

I know that we have a sprint coming out with Canvas Micarta and a different steel. I know there are a number of "Exclusives" IN-the-works. The Shaman design has proven to please a few. This means there will be variations.

S90 or higher is not clear. Higher in what area, or better still whattauwant?

I know I’m not the guy you’re asking that question of, but I’ve been really wanting some K490, especially at 65+ hrc. Twice as tough as M4 and nearly as wear resistant at a given hardness. If we jack the hardness, I think it’ll hang with or surpass the “big boys” K390, 4V, and Rex 45 at the same hardness.

Not only that, but with more chromium and a cryo/low temper, it will have significantly better corrosion resistance to boot.

I can’t get any to make my own knives (I tried getting it from Bohler USA), and the one maker who used to use it stopped. I’m, therefore, stuck wishing for a steel that I might otherwise never get a chance to use.

Thanks for hearing me out, and have a great day!!

OK Attila,

Why do you think this? Is K490 just not being made or is the minimum too high for custom guys? It has interesting chemistry, especially the Tungsten and Vanadium.

I’ve been informed that the Bohler USA steel mill isn’t rolling anything thin enough for DIYers. I was quoted $2,400 for a 2x12x12 chunk, and that was just an off-cut and the smallest they could do. That’s way too much and too thick for an “average Joe” looking for a great steel to make a knife out of.

After studying the datasheet and other metallurgical info, this is the one steel that I think can give Cru-wear AND M4 a run for their money at the same time. Anything that challenges M4’s wear resistance and doubles it’s toughness has got to be excellent. Also, with 6.4% Cr, cryo, and a low temper, K490 should be closer to Cru-wear than M4 in corrosion resistance. It just sounds like a great steel, so K490 has been on my radar for nearly 5 years.

BTW, thank you for listening to the small guy, Sal. It means a whole bunch to me!

I'm glad to hear that. I have coming a Manix 2 that you guys shipped out yesterday and should be arriving at my front door tomorrow. There are some that have derogatory things to say about S110V, but if you guys are still planning new knives with the material, then you must think it's good stuff. I need to carry this one around and decide for myself.

I'd love to see one in M390 and also S110V,I know you would never do REX 121 or Terravantium but a guy can dream can't he.
I really like M390 a lot because it can take a toothy or polished edge and it's edge is very aggressive.

https://terrain365.com/collections/terr ... m%E2%84%A2

I also just picked up a Manix 2 in M390 from Warriors and Wonders in British Columbia and I buy most of my knives there and from S&R Knives.
I have always liked the Manix 2 PM2 Military and Gayle Bradley.

When I seen they still had Manix 2 in M390 I had to grab one,I also own 2 in M4 I got from Bladehq and a S110v version I got from S&R knives and I wanted to say thank you to you Sal for making these knives I love so much.

I forget what show I was at and I seen Eric after I got my first Manix 2 at a show and when I was leaving your booth he told me he was the one who designed the Manix 2 and you could tell he was so proud of his design, that first Manix 2 I gave to my Dad.

I'd probably buy a Salt version in SE LC200N

🤷‍♂️

I own a knife in REX 121 and I'd say that Spyderco's Maxamet is just as good.

I don't think I'd want a Shaman in Maxamet, but the Maxamet Manix has been (for me) functionally just the same as a REX 121 Manix.
